Obituary

Fredlynne Granholm Puett, 82, of San Antonio was taken to our Lord the evening of June 27th, 2018 at Kindred Hospital in San Antonio, Texas, passing away from pneumonia contracted while recovering from a stroke.
"Lynne" was born on September 14th, 1935 at Fort Sill, Oklahoma, to Fredrick Andrew Granholm and Dorothy Bernhard Granholm. Along with sister Dorothy Ann (DA), Lynne viewed herself affectionally as an "Army Brat" and traveled the world as part of the Army family. Postings for the Granholms included Fort Sill, Oklahoma (twice); Schofield Barracks, Hawaii; Fort Ethan Allen, Vermont; Fort Devens, Massachusetts; Memphis, Tennessee; Seguin, Texas; Yokohama, Japan; Fort Bragg, North Carolina; and Fort Riley, Kansas. A full year early, Lynne graduated from Seguin High School in 1952. Excelling in school, she was admitted to Duke University and graduated with a Bachelor's Degree in Business Administration in 1956. She worked for the Social Security Administration for two years and then married back into the Army Family when she wed 2LT Joseph F. Puett, Jr. Together they had and raised three sons: Joe, Rick, and Steve; and lived in Fort Benning, Georgia; Fort Greely, Alaska; Fort Riley, Kansas; San Antonio, Texas (twice); Fort Sill, Oklahoma; Fort Monroe and Springfield, Virginia; and SHAPE, Belgium. Lynne moved permanently to San Antonio in 1977 and is a long-term resident of the city, calling San Antonio home for the last 41 years.
Lynne would probably characterize herself first and foremost as a "Mother and Grandmother." She adored her three sons and four grandchildren (Mike, Greg, Julianna, and Emily) and made frequent visits to all of them, regardless of where they were in the world. Over the years she travelled extensively for family visits to various nationwide locations such as: Pasadena and Monterey, California; Las Vegas, Nevada; Sierra Vista, Arizona; Honolulu, Hawaii; West Point, New York; Fort Carson, Colorado; Fayetteville and Charlotte, North Carolina; Miami Florida; and Fripp Island, South Carolina. She also travelled to visit her loved ones when they were abroad in such locations as: Vicenza, Italy; Montreal, Canada; Wiltshire, England; Ireland; Paris, Normandy, and Mont St Michel' France; and the German Alps. As Lynne's travel log attests, her love for her sons and grandchildren literally spanned the world.
Lynne often shared that one of the central highlights of her life came in her later years when she joined Army Residence Community (ARC) in October 2013. She embraced the ARC's community of like-minded Patriotic Americans with their comprehensive Military backgrounds and their love of life, country, and camaraderie. She developed deep bonds throughout the ARC and savored the friendships she made through her association and work with the Army Daughters, her weekly Mahjong playing group, volunteering in the ARC Library, and assisting in Hymnal preparation in the ARC Chapel. She will especially miss the wonderful friends she made with her neighbors on Churubusco Drive.
Lynne is survived by her sons, Joseph Fallaw Puett III of Sierra Vista, Arizona; Fredrick Andrew Puett of Charlotte, North Carolina; Stephen William Puett of Atlanta, Georgia; daughters-in-law Margaret M. Puett, Sharon L. Puett, and J. Susan Cooper; and grandchildren Michael J. Puett age 28, Gregory J. Puett age 26, Julianna M. Puett age 18, and Emily G. Puett age 16; and her sister Dorothy Ann Hankins. She is predeceased by her parents Fredrick Andrew Granholm and Dorothy Bernhard Granholm.
A memorial service for Lynne, officiated by Chaplain Bob Hester, will be held at 10:30am, Monday July 9th 2018 at the Army Residence Community Chapel, 7400 Crestway Drive, San Antonio, TX 78239. She will be interred in a private ceremony at the Riverside Cemetery, Seguin in a family plot with her beloved maternal grandparents, Alexander H. Bernhard and Alice Vaughan Bernhard.
In lieu of flowers please donate to the National Stroke Association, 9707 E Easter Lane Suite B, Centennial, CO 80112 (or visit them at www.stroke.org); the Army Residence Community's "Resident Gift Fund;" or to a charity of your choice in Lynne's name.
