Gilbert L. Brietzke, age 92 of Marion, passed away on October 23, 2013. Visitation will begin at 9 a.m. Saturday, October 26, 2013 at St. John Lutheran Church followed by funeral service at 10 a.m. with Rev. Eileen Spehr officiating. Interment with military honors under the auspices of the American Legion H. U. Wood Post 245 will follow in St. John Lutheran Cemetery. Gilbert was born on April 9, 1921 in Marion to August Frank and Anita Gutz Brietzke. Gilbert proudly served his country in the United States Army during World War II. He was a lifelong member of St. John Lutheran Church and a lifelong farmer. He is preceded in death by his parents and his sister, Ethel Kallies and her husband Melfred. Survivors include his loving wife of 60 years, Helen Brietzke; children, Geraldine (Gerry)) Rucker and husband Wayne, Larry Brietzke and wife Kathy, and Jeanette Walpole and husband Clayton; grandchildren, Wendy Rucker Thibeault and husband Kevin, Crystal Walpole Dojahn and husband Derick, Ethan Walpole and fiancé Denise Schaeffer, Megan Brietzke Schneider and husband Daniel and Hunter Brietzke; great-grandchildren, Abigail, Caitlyn and Kendall Thibeault, Cambry Dojahn, and Kinnidi Schneider; niece, Janice Kemp and husband Richard; great-niece, Lisa Cambiano and husband Larry and their son Lance; numerous other loving family members and friends. Serving as pallbearers will be Ethan Walpole, Hunter Brietzke, Derick Dojahn, Daniel Schneider, Kevin Thibeault and Richard Kemp.
