Gladys Evelyn Kuhn Fruehling, age 102, of Seguin passed away on July 11, 2024. She was born on October 31, 1921, to Emma Orts Kuhn and Albert John Kuhn in the home of her grandmother Orts in Paige, Texas.

She was baptized in the same house on April 23rd, 1922.  Rev. Gerhard Poehlman confirmed her on July 13th, 1936 in St. John's Lutheran Church in Paige, Texas.

She attended a four-room school in Paige through the 10th grade.  For her last year of school (11th grade), she commuted to Giddings daily by a commercial bus.  She also worked, as needed, at the General Store in Paige that was run by her family.

After graduating from High School in 1939, she made the decision to become the first in her family to attend college.  She went to Texas Lutheran College for two years.  To further her education, she taught for two years in country schools and attended The University of Texas in the summers.

She graduated from UT on Feb. 6th ,1945 and moved to Iowa where she worked as a Social worker for Lutheran Social Services.  While there, she met a charming young pastor.  She married H. Walter Fruehling on Dec. 5th, 1945 in his father's church in Nemaha County, Nebraska.  His father, William R. Fruehling officiated.

Together, Walt and Gladys, served congregations in Windsor, Colorado; Marion, Texas; Overland Park, Kansas and Beatrice, Nebraska.  Gladys met the challenges of a pastor's wife and was a great support to Walt.  She was active with her church family wherever she was.  Her faith was the most important part of her life.  She spent time studying the Bible and praying every day. She died secure in Jesus' arms.

She was preceded in death by Walt after 76 years of marriage.  They were in love until the end.  She is survived by their four children; Mary (Raymond) Grote; Mike (Mary Lou) Fruehling; Sam (Anne Bogaev) Fruehling; Becky (Susano) Galvan; 9 grandchildren and numerous great grandchildren, numerous nieces, nephews, other loving family members and friends.

Private interment will be held at a later date.
