Obituary

Gloria Rosalie Schramm Schaker, beloved wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother went to see her Lord on March 7, 2012, surrounded by her loving family. Gloria lived a life full of grace, beauty and dignity with extreme devotion to her faith and family. She was born in San Antonio, Texas on October 12th. She attended St. Joseph's Academy serving as Choral Director and Jefferson High School serving as the Drum Majorette. Following graduation, she worked for ten years as the private secretary to the president of Luling Oil & Gas in San Antonio and was a member of the Desk and Derrick Club prior to her marriage to Fred O. Schaker, Jr. in 1952. She sang at the USO during WWII entertaining the troops with her beautiful voice. A long-time resident of San Antonio, retiring to Lake McQueeney, Texas in the late '70s, she continued to surround herself with her passion for music, family and Church. A song leader for many years at St. James Catholic Church, Seguin, TX, she also played the violin with the Mid-Texas Symphony for over 30 years after raising her family. As an avid homemaker she enjoyed life with her family and husband. The loving couple celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary with a mass and close family on Feb 19 at their Lake McQueeney home. Gloria was a long-time parishioner of Our Lady of Guadalupe Parish. She was a life long member of Herman Sons Fraternal Lodge, St. Joseph's Maternity Guild, and St. Elizabeth Society in San Antonio. She is preceded in death by her parents Otto and Concepcion Schramm and by her loving son, Christopher Andrew Schaker. She is survived by her devoted husband Fred of 60 years; two daughters, Theresa DeFrain and husband Jim; Mary Enfield and husband Dwight; two sons, George Schaker and wife Julie, and Tony Schaker and wife Karen; two brothers, Otto Schramm, Jr., and Herbert Schramm and wife Dottie; numerous grandchildren and two great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins, and cherished friends. Visitation is Sunday, March 11 from 2-6pm at Tres Hewell Mortuary Chapel, 165 Tor Dr., Seguin, TX followed by the recitation of the rosary at 6pm. Funeral Service is Monday March 12 at 10am at Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church, 409 West Krezdorn, Seguin,TX with interment at San Geronimo Cemetery, Seguin TX. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Mid-Texas Symphony, 1000 West Court St, Seguin, TX 78155.
