Obituary

Harvey Leland Maddox, Jr., USA (Ret.), age 78, of Schertz, formerly of Seguin, passed away on March 18, 2008. Private family graveside services and interment with Full Military Honors will be held on Good Friday, March 21, 2008 in Seguin. Friends and family are invited to a Celebration of Leland's life at the Seguin Hermann Sons Lodge, Highway 90 West on Good Friday, March 21, 2008 from 5:00p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Leland was born on December 10, 1929 in Seguin, Texas to Harvey and Ruby McCall Maddox. He was a 1948 graduate of Seguin High School with the distinction of being both Senior Class President and recognized as Best All Around. He attended Texas Lutheran University before beginning a career in the military and civil service. He served in the United States Army where he was the youngest of his time to be given the distinction of warrant officer. He retired from the Army as a Chief Warrant Officer. He was a helicopter pilot with the Army National Guard. Later he retired from Civil Service at Randolph Air Force Base. Leland was an avid hunter and fisherman and a world class traveler from Iceland to Australia, from Thailand to the Danube, from Alaska to Central and South America. One of his greatest passions was square dancing. He was also proud to be a lifetime Libertarian. He is preceded in death by his daughter Denise Maddox, his parents and his sister DeLois Maddox Garrett. Survivors include his daughter Delane Maddox Mayfield(Wayne) of Cibolo; grandson Daylon Mayfield and granddaughter Chancy Mayfield ; sister Jolly Ann Ellis(Woodie) of Seguin; brothers, Blane Maddox (JoAnn) of Seguin, Mark Maddox(Peggy) of Kingsbury and Marvel Maddox (Bobbie) of Seguin; aunt Gertrude Coker(Clinton) of Seguin; former wife and close friend Ruth Keller; numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. Serving as honorary pallbearers will be Jack Fox, Albert Lindemann, Alfred Kolbe, Roy Bullock, Leroy Micheli and John Becker. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Denise Maddox Memorial Scholarship fund at Texas Lutheran University, TLU Development Office, 1000 W. Court, Seguin, Texas 78155. Envelopes will be provided.
