Obituary

Helen Frances Huber, age 85 of Seguin, formerly longtime resident of San Marcos and Livingston, passed away on May 18, 2008. Visitation will be held on Wednesday, May 21, 2008 from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. Graveside service and interment will be held on Thursday, May 22, 2008 at 2:00 p.m. at San Geronimo Cemetery with Rev. Paul J. Zwarich officiating. Helen was born on January 5, 1923 in the Post Oak/Elm Creek area of Guadalupe County, Texas to Frank Carl and Ida Germer Schievelbein. July 29, 1944 she married Elmer E. Huber at Emanuel's Lutheran Church in Seguin, Texas. To this union were born four children, Rodney Wayne, Steven Hugh, Lynda Ann and Patty Sue. Helen was a loving mother and wife together with her love for flowers and plants and her quilts. Helen and Elmer lived their first twenty four years in the San Marcos area and the rest of their life together in Livingston, Texas. Helen loved her church, Trinity Lutheran Church in Livingston. She was an active leader in the building of that church from its beginning. She was a Sunday School Teacher and Sunday School Treasurer for twenty years, she also served as L.W.M.L. President for many years. She organized the Altar Society for the church and served as Chairman. Helen was also a member of the Polk County Garden Club since 1971, holding all offices of that organization. She was a talented flower arranger and won many awards. Her love for growing plants and flowers was known to all that knew her. She shared her plants generously with anyone that wanted some. She also had a love for piecing and quilting. Her children and grandchildren have a legacy of her quilts. She was a member of the Livingston Piece Makers Guild. Her husband precedes her in death as did her parents, brothers, Eugene Schievelbein and Pete Schievelbein and sister, Mabel Preston. Survivors include her sons, Rod Huber and wife Susan and Steven Huber and wife Pam,; daughters, Lynda Torres and husband Rudy and Patty Huber; grandchildren, Jennifer de la Port and husband Paul, Gretchen Martin and husband Jon, Chris Huber and wife Carol, Brian Huber and wife Trisha, Michael Torres, Alex Torres, Chad Brown and wife Brandi and Kristin Brown; eight great-grandchildren; brother, Gilbert Schievelbein and wife Anna Marie; sisters-in-law, Lorene Schievelbein, Mary Huber, Wanda Huber, and Wanda Schievelbein; numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. Memorial contributions may be made to Trinity Lutheran Church, P. O. Box 1163, Livingston, Texas, 77351.
