Helmut Peter Bauer, age 81 of Seguin, passed away on June 13, 2026. Helmut was born on February 23, 1945, in Eisfeld, Germany.
Peter was born in East Germany during the country's most difficult times. In 1960 he was able to come to America. Peter was proud to become an American citizen. He joined the United States Army and had wanted to make a career of it, like his father, but due to medical reasons he was honorably discharged. He and Bonnie met in San Antonio. They got married three months later in her hometown of El Paso, Texas.
Peter grew up Lutheran but was later Baptized in a Baptist church. They just celebrated their 53rd wedding anniversary, June the 8th. Peter wanted nothing more than to work hard and be the provider for his family. He worked for HEB transportation as a truckdriver for 35 years and loved his job. Their retirement years were mostly raising their granddaughters.
Peter beat cancer twice by God's grace. He was later diagnosed with dementia and Parkinsons disease but continued to live a blessed life with Bonnie & their family for as long as he could.
Peter is preceded in death by his parents, Elizabeth (Bauer) and Julian Paleczny, his Aunt Hilda & Uncle Horst, Uncle Dieter, Uncle Kort.
Survivors include his loving wife, Bonnie Bauer; daughter's, Amber Bauer, Tamara Bauer-Nichols and her husband, Heath Nichols, and grandchildren, Abigail Bauer, Ensley Nichols, Kylie Nolte, Shelby Nolte, Channing Nolte, and Brantley Nolte; other loving family members and a host of friends.
Visitation will be held on Tuesday, June 23, 2026, from 5 to 7 p.m. at Tres Hewell Mortuary Chapel. Funeral service will be held on Wednesday, June 24, 2026, at 10:00 a.m. at McQueeney Baptist Church with the Reverend Will Strain officiating.
Graveside services and interment with military honors will follow in Fort Sam Houston National Cemetery at 1:15 p.m.
