CW2 Hermann Wilhelm Tammen, U. S. Army Ret., age 73 of Spring Branch, Texas, passed away on February 22, 2014. Visitation will be held on Sunday March 2, 2014 at Tres Hewell Mortuary from 2 to 4 p.m. Funeral services will be held on Monday, March 3, 2014 at 10:30 a.m. at Tres Hewell Mortuary Chapel with Rev. Ron Zipp officiating and the auspices of the Order of the Eastern Star and Masonic Rites. Interment with full military honors will follow at Fort Sam Houston National Cemetery. Will was born on October 29, 1940 in San Antonio, Texas to Hermann Rheinhardt and Elsie Frieda (Patzina) Tammen. He was a graduate of the University of Maryland. He will be remembered as a highly decorated officer having served in the United States Army for 29 years including service during the Vietnam War. After retirement from the military he enjoyed spending time with his family and friends. Will held active memberships in the Seguin Chapter 555 (currently Worthy Patron) and the Canyon Lake Chapter 1103 Order of the Eastern Star and a member of both Canyon Lake Lodge # 1425 AF & AM where he was and endowed member and Guadalupe Lodge # 109 AF & AM. He was President of the Texas Hi Twelve. He enjoyed fishing. He was a lifetime member of the VFW and was District Commander of the VFW. He is preceded in death by his son, Mark Tammen, his parents, and his sister, Alida Hillson; Survivors include his loving wife of 47 years, Marie Mansfield Tammen; children, Bob Mansfield and wife Nancy, Denise Mansfield And husband Donald Kokas, Chelle Renee, and April Tammen; grandchildren, Bill Vehrs, III, Strider Johnson, Bradley Vehrs and fiancé Vanessa Olivas, and Brooklyn Tammen; great-grandson, Aiden; numerous nieces and nephews, many friends and many beloved OES sisters and Masonic brothers. His masonic brothers will serve as pallbearers. Will was a loving husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather. He was loved and adored by all who knew him. Memorial contributions may be made to the Shriner Hospital of choice.
