IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Homer Delos
Willoughby Iii
July 2, 1945 – December 11, 2021
Homer Delos Willoughby III, 76, of Seguin, Texas went home to be with his Heavenly Father on Saturday, December 11, 2021, at his daughter and son-in-law's (Michelle and Jan's) home in San Antonio, Texas. He was born July 2, 1945 in Wellington, Texas to Homer Delos Willoughby Jr. and Alice Marie Willoughby (Graves).
Homer was raised as a missionary's son and was fluent in Spanish because of his time spent in Mexico as a child. He graduated from McAllen High School and went on to serve in the Aircraft Wing of the United States Marines Corps as a Jet Engine Mechanic in the Vietnam War. He was known as a jack-of-all-trades and never met a DIY project he wasn't willing to tackle. Those around him sought his advice on a variety of topics ranging from automotive maintenance to home repairs, and even dairy cattle. One might say he was the original Google search. He was always willing to lend a helping hand or a tool, if necessary. He maintained a high standard in both his personal life, as well as every task he put his hand to. Homer was not afraid of hard work, and no matter what he did, you knew it was going to be done with excellence.
He was always willing to tell you how something should be done correctly, and you knew that was about to happen when you heard him say, "If it were me..." You often heard him respond to something you said with, "Well, there you go." When he did not appreciate the outcome of a particular situation, you could hear him say, "All I got was the south end of a northbound mule." Many things he taught will continue to be passed on for generations. Things like: "It's just as easy to keep your gas tank full, as it is to keep it empty." "Keep your windshield washer reservoir full so the hose stays moist and will not crack." I am sure there are many more wise sayings to be remembered by all those whose lives he touched.
Homer loved life and his family, and woke up every morning thanking God for another day on His Earth. His last days were spent surrounded by his loved ones and all would agree he was the best brother, uncle, Dad, Papaw, neighbor, and friend anyone could ask for. Generous. Kind. Loving. Forgiving. Gracious. Self-Disciplined. He did his best to walk in love, as Jesus did, wishing to bring glory and honor to God in everything he said and did. Our hearts break, as he will be deeply missed. However, we rejoice that he is now in Heaven, where there is no death, sorrow, crying or pain.
He is survived by his children, Bruce Kimbrell and wife, Rachel; Michelle Edwards (Willoughby) and husband, Jan; the children he raised as his own, Angie High (Machala) and husband, Victor; Kenneth Machala and wife, Jan; and Alex Machala; grandchildren, Brandy, John, Hannah, Seth, Travis, Justin, Felicia, Cheryl, Kandice, Kayla, Rachel, and Emily, as well as 13 great-grandchildren; siblings, Anna Bokmeyer (Willoughby), Phillip Willoughby, Samuel Willoughby, and James Willoughby.
He was preceded in death by his parents, and his sisters, Diane Cooksey (Willoughby) and Faith Ellen Willoughby.
