Howard August Altenhof, of the Schumannsville Community and lifetime resident of Guadalupe County, age 78, passed away February 8, 2008. Visitation will be held on Monday, February 11, 2008 from 5 to 7 p.m. at Tres Hewell Mortuary. Funeral Serv ices will be conducted on Tuesday, February 12, 2008 at 2:00 p.m. at Emanuel's Lutheran Church with Rev. Paul J. Zwarich officiating. Interment will follow at Boecker Cemetery. Howard was born on July 28, 1929 in New Braunfels, Texas to Louis and Hulda Meyer Altenhof. He was a lifelong farmer and founding director of Green Valley Water Supply Corporation serving as a director for over twenty years. Howard served for many years on the Guadalupe County Agriculture Stabilization and Conservation Committee as its chairman; also Board of Directors of Producers Cooperative Marketing Association. In 1949, he served as chairman of the Guadalupe County Fair. He is preceded in death by his parents, his son Russell Altenhof and his brother Russell Altenhof. Survivors include his wife of 54 years, Dorothy Altenhof; daughters, Jeanette Barber and husband Paul and Shirley Germann and husband Stephen; daughter-in-law, Judy Altenhof; grandchildren, Jamie Altenhof and David Germann; sister, Lulu Mae Schwab and husband Vernon; sisters and brothers-in-law; Lela Bostic, Ivy Ann Cronin, Morris and Vernell Kastner and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
