Seguin and Rockport

Ida "Kay" Mosier

Ida “Kay” Mosier, 85, of Seguin and Rockport, Texas, passed away peacefully on October 9, 2026. Affectionately known as “Momma Kay,” she will be remembered for her contagious laughter, cheerful spirit, brilliant mind, and unconditional love.

Born in Houston to Adeline “Laddie” Mosier (Rymal) and Robert “Dan” Mosier, Kay moved to Corpus Christi in 1950, beginning a lifelong love of the coast and its creatures, great and small.

Kay believed that if you could read it, you could do it. She attended Del Mar College, where she met her future husband, before they continued their education at the University of Texas and Kansas University.

Her passion for biology, chemistry, and research took her to Austin, Texas, Lawrence, Kansas, and Washington, D.C. Her favorite work was at the Smithsonian, helping curate and preserve collections at the National Museum of Natural History.

In Alberta, Canada, Kay discovered her love of the wilderness and welcomed her beloved daughter, Heather, where her treasured cabin in St. Paul offered lake views, the calls of loons, and northern lights.

Fresh from her divorce, Kay and Heather embraced a change of scenery, spending three years in Albuquerque, New Mexico, before returning to Texas in 1982. Kay’s journey took her through Kerrville, Fredericksburg, her beloved Rockport, and finally Seguin.

Kay loved birdwatching, beachcombing, fishing, plants, frogs, books, movies, and games she fully intended to win. Wickedly smart, she breezed through cryptograms and crosswords and was a formidable Scrabble and cribbage opponent. Even three days before her passing, she made sure Heather knew she had won.

A nurturing and devoted mother, Kay taught Heather to read, enjoy the outdoors, listen to the waves and birds, and above all, be happy. To countless others, she was a cherished friend, adopted mother or grandmother, and simply their “Momma Kay.”

She is lovingly remembered by her daughter, Heather Steele Felty; son-in-law, Patrick Felty; many nieces, nephews, cousins, grandnieces, and grandnephews; dear friends Andrea Pomfrey, Mary Cravy, Maurice Isaac, Atlee and Linda Fritz; and beloved grand-dogs Willie Nelson and Kevin Bacon.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Dan and Laddie Mosier, her brother Bob Mosier, and sister-in-law Jane Mosier.

Heather and Patrick thank the caregivers and friends at Argent Court in Seguin for their love and kindness during Kay’s final year. She loved her home there and “her girls.”

We will miss her laughter, her hugs, her stories, and her beating us at every game. Her joy lives on in the people she loved.
