James Edward "Bubba" Schaefer, age 69 of New Braunfels, passed away on November 6, 2013. A memorial service celebrating his life will be held on Friday, November 8, 2013 at 1:30 p.m. at Tres Hewell Mortuary Chapel with Mr. Bobbie Gregg officiating. A reception to follow will be announced. Private interment will be held at a later date. Bubba was born on January 17, 1944 in New Braunfels, Texas to Eddie and Dorothy Nichols Schaefer. He worked for over 50 years as a heavy equipment operator and welder in the construction industry. Bored in retirement he started Bubba's Dozer Service. He enjoyed camping, hunting and raising miniature animals. Everyone knew Bubba's happy place was either bay fishing at Indianola or spending time with all his babies. He is preceded in death by his parents and his sisters Bette Morgan and Bonnie Allen. Survivors include his wife, Carol Schaefer; daughter, Tina Allen and significant other, Troy Gaisford; sons, Ricky Schaefer and wife Debbie and Jim Schaefer and wife Cyndi; step-son, Lonnie Abel and wife Shawnna Kridner; brothers, Donald Schaefer and wife Diane and Joe Schaefer and wife Anita; sister, Carole Gregg and husband Bobbie; grandchildren, Mikey Abel, Jami Schaefer, Tricia Johnson and husband Chance, Vicky Schaefer, Lee Schaefer and fiancé Lauren Franke, Deanna Aleman and husband Mark, Kevin Proctor, Sarah Proctor, Ty Abel and Jaycee Sanchez; great-grandchildren, Tyler, Brayden, Frankie, Anna, Tater, Kitten and Rylee; numerous nieces and nephews and other loving family and friends. Memorial contributions may be made to the charity of one's choice.
