Jane Blumberg Horn went to be with the Lord on January 8, 2016, passing away peacefully at her home in Seguin. She was 95.
Jane was born in Seguin on November 18, 1920, to Louis "Dugger" and Ella Blumberg. She attended Seguin High School before studying at SMU and the University of Texas, where she received a bachelor's degree in education. She later received a master's in counseling from Texas State. After moving to Colorado Springs, Colorado, to do drafting work at the town's army base, she met the love of her life and husband of 62 years, Curtis Horn. They were married in Seguin on September 4, 1943, and after several years in Houston, moved back in 1980. They spent the rest of their lives in the same farmhouse at the end of Lakeview Drive, near the Guadalupe River.
Jane will be remembered for her love of life, her love of her family, and her faith. Relentlessly positive until the very end, she was an inspiration to all who knew her. She recognized that "life is beautiful if we open our eyes to it," and every sunrise, sunset, spring rain and blooming flower that followed was cherished. She loved the way the Lord revealed Himself on the farm, and never tired of admiring the "pictures He painted." Just as she was able to rejoice with every season of the year, so too did she appreciate the changing seasons of life. Filled with both wisdom and wonder, she spent her departing years basking in the Lord's glory, and was infinitely grateful for all of His blessings—most of all her family. She also enjoyed traveling, studying scripture, eating chocolate, drinking wine, and watching the San Antonio Spurs, who never lost because they were the lesser team, only because they happened to be tired that night.
Jane was preceded in death by her husband, Curtis Horn, who passed away in the same house in 2005. She is survived by her son Scott (and wife Anne) and daughter Susan (and husband Mike); grandchildren Ginna (and husband Michael), Sarah (and husband Jeff), and Ryan; and great-grandchildren Grace, Corbin, Rollins, Brooke, and John Scott. She was loved dearly by her family, and will be missed. C'est la vie. Upward and onward.
Her life will be celebrated with a memorial service on Friday, January 15, 2016 at 11 a.m. at St. Andrew's Episcopal Church with The Reverend Kevin Dellaria officiating. A reception will follow in McKeough Hall. Private interment will be held in San Geronimo Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to St. Andrew's Episcopal Church, 201 E. Nolte Street, Seguin, Texas, 78155.
