Jerry began learning the game of golf at age 12 at Seguin's Starcke Park Golf course and this love, relationship and career continued until his death. Before the grip of golf, he loved baseball and could be found at the baseball fields playing with his friends as his grandmother watched. His golf career included his Seguin High School playing honors of state championships, college career began at Texas Lutheran University and completed at The University of North Texas as an All American then onto college coach of The University of North Texas Golf Team as well Athletic Director of Golf and PGA Golf Professional at numerous public and private country club courses (Texarkana & Dallas Athletic) including our own Chaparral Golf Course. His love of flying, which he passed on to his oldest grandson, Jeffrey, grew during his service in the Vietnam War where he served as a naval navigator on reconnaissance aircrafts. Jerry Greiner's first job was at Baenziger's Model Market as a bagger and his last was as a bagger here at our local HEB, just as he wanted! His father and Uncle Jim instilled in him a deep love and commitment to Church, community, volunteerism and service for others which he embodied in all which he participated. Jerry Greiner lived clean and sober as the result of a strong spiritual life, loved people, never meeting a stranger, always willing to give a great hug or extending his hand for a handshake, serving without complaint and always quietly listening.

His parents preceded him in death as did his infant brother, Terrance Greiner, his sister, Jeannine L. Greiner Schwartz and mother-in-law, Irene Bell Dodgen. Survivors include his loving wife of 18 years, Donna Dodgen; sons, Jeff Greiner and wife Belinda and Chris Greiner; grandchildren, Jeffrey Greiner, Aubrie Greiner, Lexi Greiner and Elliott Greiner; brother, Charles Greiner and wife, Doris; brother-in-law, John Schwartz and wife Sally Nelson Schwartz; Donna's brothers, Lockett Nelson and wife Letha, Mark Nelson and wife Vickie and Les Dodgen; father-in-law, Donald K. Dodgen; daughters-in-law, Laurie Greiner and Maureen Pennington Greiner; former wife and mother of his sons, Patty Greiner Sherouse and husband Jimmy and her father Stephen Donnelly as well as numerous nieces, nephews and cousins and many, many friends.
