Jo Emily Winkel Prochnow, age 82, of Seguin, Texas passed away on November 13, 2012. Jo Emily was born in Eagle Lake, Texas on November 28, 1929 to James Clarence and Evie (Werlla) Winkel. She is preceded in death by her parents, and husband of 62 years, Harold Glenn Prochnow. She is survived by her daughters Emily Huser and husband Frank of Geronimo, and Lisa Prochnow of New Braunfels; son Glenn Prochnow and wife Claudine of San Antonio; grandchildren Meredith and Cameron Huser, and Eric, Codi, and Kami Prochnow; as well as numerous nieces, nephews, and life-long friends. Jo Emily was a graduate of Columbus High School in Columbus, Texas, and Texas Lutheran University, where she was a member of the Beta Alpha Sigma sorority. She met her beloved husband Proc at TLU and they settled in Seguin. She went on to earn a master's degree from Texas State University. Jo Emily had a long career as a high school and junior high English teacher in Seguin, beginning in 1951 and continuing until her retirement in 1980. She worked in various offices at Texas Lutheran after her retirement from public schools, until she retired for a second time in 1992 to become a full time Mimi to her much-loved grandchildren.
She was a member of Emanuel's Lutheran Church for 60 years, serving on the Church Council and in numerous other church ministries. She was an avid bridge player, and made numerous friendships playing in several bridge clubs. She volunteered at the Seguin library for many years. She and Proc were also members of the Convivials, a group of lifetime friends who have met for fun and fellowship for over 50 years. Jo Emily and Proc enjoyed many years of traveling around the world together. We know he has scouted many beautiful sights and has an itinerary ready for them in heaven. Travis, Seguin, Texas, 78155. She was a loving wife and mother, a devoted grandmother, patient teacher, and an example of courage and perseverance to us all. Christ has brought home His daughter, and her victory is won! Visitation will be held on Thursday, November 15, 2012 at Tres Hewell Mortuary from 5 to 7 p.m. Funeral services will be held on Friday, November 16, 2012 at 3 p. m. at Emanuel's Lutheran Church with Rev. Paul J. Zwarich and Pastoral Assistant Donna Lou Zipp officiating. Interment will follow in San Geronimo Cemetery.
