IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Joe Pullen
Kidd
August 28, 1930 – September 5, 2024
Joe Pullen Kidd of Seguin was lifted into Glorious Heaven eight days after celebrating his 94th birthday. He was born in Ethridge, Tennessee, the son of Noble Clarkson Kidd, Sr. and Mattie Maude Hughes.
Joe's roots were in rural Tennessee, but in 1934 his widowed mother moved Joe and his five siblings to the Rio Grande Valley of Texas. Joe quickly became a proud Texan and graduated from Harlingen High School in 1948. On New Years' Day 1954 he married the love of his life Donna Jeanne Mounts.
Joe was a dedicated, hard-working individual. He began a career in the consumer loan business in 1953. In 1960 Joe and Donna with their two children moved to Corpus Christi, Texas, for a couple of years before returning to McAllen, Texas. He served as a Vice-President & General Manager of Family Investment Company, but spent most of his working years with Great Western Finance where he served as a Manager and Area Supervisor. In 1985 he was hired by InterFirst Bank of Harlingen as the Vice-President of Installment Loans.
Joe enjoyed his career, but his happiest days were spent in 32 years of retirement. In 1992, he and Donna purchased property in McQueeney and left the Valley to build their retirement home. By himself, Joe cleared over an acre of brush and weeds and planted a lawn of thick green grass. He had many hobbies and interests, including hunting and fishing, but in McQueeney he began one of his most beloved hobbies…gardening. He tilled a large garden where he began growing the most incredible vegetables. He had two green thumbs, as he could make any piece of stem or leaf grow into a large, blooming, producing plant.
Joe was a US Army Korean War Veteran, a Mason, a Shriner, and former member and past president of the McAllen Lions Clubs International.
Joe was loved and respected by all who met him. He was a devoted husband and father who will be deeply missed.
Joe was preceded in death by his parents and five siblings: Lela Kidd Medley, Noble C. Kidd, Jr., Mary Kidd Wilson, Comer C. Kidd, and Rose Kidd O'Lone.
Survivors include his daughter Donna Jo Myers and husband Steven; his son Anthony Wayne "Tony" Kidd and wife Maripat; his grandchildren Billy Dee Kidd and Emily Grace Kidd; numerous nieces and nephews and dear friends.
A memorial service celebrating Joe's life will be held at Tres Hewell Mortuary Chapel on Friday, September 13, 2024, at 2:00pm with the Reverend Tom Jones officiating. Private interment will be held at a later date.
