Joey was a knowledgeable and avid hunter, and he loved working on his land. He was raised knowing that hard work instilled integrity and pride. He was raised up working at the family ranch and hunting. He started driving a steering wheel stick shift truck at the age of 8, he wasn't tall enough to see over the dash, so he had to put a bucket under him to see. He would drive all over the family ranch and did all kinds of work, from herding cattle and cutting down trees and running barbwire for new fence lines through his childhood years. During his high school years, he worked at a veterinarian office, he loved working with animals, and he always had a way with them. After high school he joined the Coast Guard Service (Reserves) where he would enjoy his weekend adventures. He lived in Corpus Christi and working in the family business when he married his wife, Jennie of almost 30 years. They were still newlyweds when they first purchased their 1 st home together. In this house they had their first child, Janelle. And soon they outgrow that house and bought their 2 nd home, where they had their 2 nd child, Jamie. They were expecting their 3 rd child Joshua, when they made the big move to San Antonio in 2000. It was a big adjustment for the whole family, but as usual Joey worked hard and found a job working in the Home Building industry where he started his career as a Construction Manager. It was in no time that he learned the industry and made his way to be one of the best in this field. Within their first year in San Antonio, they purchased their 3rd family home. In this home, they were blessed to add Ashton to their family, completing their family. Joey was so happy to be a father and enjoyed playing around with the kids and taking them hunting and fishing, he loved any chance to teach the kids or anyone that would listen what he has learned over the years. He also was a big jokester and loved to mess around, he always had some little phrase he would say and do his cute little smirks as he said them, you just couldn't help but smile. It's been 3 years now that Joey got his 4-legged best friend, DeeDee. She has been so special to him during this time. He wouldn't go too many places without her. He would feed her a special portion of cottage cheese every evening. He trained her to listen and shake your hand and she is so well behaved from all the love and time he has spent with her. She was always by his side. When these two were around you, you could just see how much they adored each other. Joey got his land that he had been working hard for and had big plans. Him and Ashton have been working long and hard hours on cleaning it up and getting things in place as he envisioned it. He got some chickens at the beginning but unfortunately the coyotes got them so he got some guinea hens for protection and some calves. Joey was so excited about his rare white peacock that he just got. He also got some cats for the snakes; he had been finding several copperheads out there this summer. In the evenings he enjoyed sitting outside in his cute little sitting area under a large mesquite tree smoking his cigarettes and drinking his Dr Pepper and playing with DeeDee and thinking about what project he needed to complete and what project they would start on next.
