John Wesley Hurley, age 74 passed away October 23, 2015. Memorial service will be held Friday, October 30, 2015 at 10 a.m. at Tres Hewell Mortuary with Rev. Bill Moore and Rev. Mike Rodriguez officiating. Interment will be private at a later date. We knew him as John, Daddy, Grandpa and Papa John, but his mom and dad called him "Boy". He was a farmer, rancher and also worked in the oilfields pumping wells across South Texas. John liked to work with his hands, from his early years on the ranch. He was a do-it-yourself man. If he needed something and could not find it, he would make it. He was an avid outdoorsman who enjoyed hunting, fishing, walking in the woods and hunting for and collecting arrowheads. John loved animals and they loved him. During his life he had many dogs, cats, deer, birds and squirrels for friends. One of the things he enjoyed was to watch the deer, squirrels and birds come to his feeders and water troughs to eat and drink. He enjoyed family, friends, dancing, classic western movies and old style gospel music. He never knew a stranger and made friends easily. In 2006, John asked Jesus to forgive him of his sins and gave his heart to the Lord. John made his commitment public by being water baptized in the Geronimo Creek. God never forgot John and when the time came for him to leave us, God was there. He took him by the hand and guided him home. The family wishes to extend their thanks to Drs. Hudnall, Saltzstien, Kassir, and Lozano; with a special thanks to the nurses and staff at Resolute Health Hospital. He is preceded in death by his parents Eugene and Bessie Hurley and Joyce Engelmann the mother of his twin daughters. Survivors include daughters, Sharon Glenewinkel and husband Albert Glenewinkel, Jr., Karon Arce and husband Alex Arce, Jr. and Johnnie Jean Pomrenke and husband James Pomrenke; four grandchildren, Lenea and husband Jesse Larralde, Arianna Arce, Ivanna Arce and Jackson Pomrenke and special friend, Lydia Boenig.
