John J. Jandt, age 70 of Seguin, passed away on May 11, 2013. Visitation will be held on Wednesday, May 15, 2013 at Tres Hewell Mortuary from 2 to 7 p.m. with the family receiving friends from 5 to 7 p.m. Funeral services will be held on Thursday, May 16, 2013 at 2:00 p.m. at Emanuel's Lutheran Church with Rev. Paul J. Zwarich officiating. Interment will follow in Riverside Cemetery with firefighter honors under the auspices of the Seguin Fire Department. John J. Jandt was born October 5, 1942 to Elbert R. Jandt and Thelma McDonnold Jandt. He attended school in Seguin, graduating in May 1961. He attended Texas Lutheran College and St. Mary's School of Law. He was admitted to the Texas Bar on May 26, 1969. He joined the Seguin Volunteer Fire Department about that same time and in 1978 he was employed as a Fire Marshal and appointed an Investigator for the City of Seguin. October 15, 1992 he was employed by the State Commission on Fire Protection until August 31, 2005, when he retired. He was certified as a peace officer for Seguin Fire EMS from 1978 to 1992 and from 2005 to 2008. He was a certified Peace Officer and a Reserve Officer for the Seguin Police Department from March 4, 1992 to January 23, 1996. He was also a member of the State Fireman's Association and Fire Marshal Association, the Guadalupe District Fireman and Fire Marshall's Association, where he served in many capacities, including past President. He was a Member of Seguin Fire Department pumper team and participated at the State and area pumper races. John also practiced law until the last several years. He was a member of the State Bar Association and of the Guadalupe County Bar Association. He was also a member of the Alamo Dog Club. John was a member of Emanuel's Lutheran Church where he served as an usher, on several committees, and was currently serving on the church council. He is preceded in death by his parents. John is survived by his sister, Elizabeth C. Jandt of Seguin, a sister in law, Vivian Simer, of Austin, nephews, Wayne Simer and wife, Barbara of Pflugerville, Robert Simer and wife, Pam of Hutto, Darrell Simer and wife, Kim of Edwards Oklahoma, niece, Sherrell Simer Zwicke and husband, Arnold and numerous great nieces, nephews and cousins also many friends and colleagues in the Legal, Law Enforcement and Fire Department communities. Serving as pallbearers will be Robert Simer, Darrell Simer, Travis Simer, Brian Simer, Sherriff Arnold Zwicke, Jeff Jandt, Tom Meeley and Rusty Krueger. Honorary pallbearers will be members of the Seguin Fire Department. In Lieu of flowers donations may be given to Emanuel's Lutheran Church at 206 N.
