John L. Ranft, age 86 of Seguin passed away on February 23, 2012. Visitation will begin on Monday, February 27, 2011 at 9:00 a.m. followed by funeral service at 11:00 a.m. at Tres Hewell Mortuary Chapel with Rev. Jeremy Roy officiating. Military honors under the auspices of the American Legion H. U. Wood Post 245 will be rendered. Private interment of his cremated remains will take place at a later date at San Geronimo Cemetery. John was born on November 30, 1925 in Belmont, Texas to John Robert and Sophie Weinaug Ranft. He proudly served his country in the United States Army during World War II where he was the recipient of the Purple Heart. He was a member of the American Legion H. U. Wood Post 245 in Seguin. He co-owned and operated K N R Used Car Lot and Texaco Station in Seguin with Alton Klein. In retirement, he enjoyed time with many friends at various coffee shops in Seguin. He is preceded in death by his loving wife Martha Lea Ranft, his parents and his brother Marvin Ranft. Survivors include his daughter, Diane Syamken and husband David; sons, Dennis Ranft and wife Rhonda, J. D. Ranft and wife Terri, George Ranft and wife Sandy, William Scholl and wife Pat, Kenneth Scholl, and Lyndon Scholl; 13 grandchildren; numerous great-grandchildren; sisters-in-law, Bernice Tschoepe and Gloria Reininger and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.
