Joseph Earl Taft, 92, of Seguin, passed away March 12, 2015, as the result of a motor vehicle accident. Visitation will be held on Thursday, March 19, 2015, from 5 to 7 pm at Tres Hewell Mortuary. Funeral services will be held at Tres Hewell Mortuary Chapel at 2 pm on Friday, March 20, 2015, with Rev. Jim Price officiating. Interment with military honors under the auspices of the American Legion H. U. Wood Post #245 of Seguin will follow at St. James Catholic Cemetery. Joseph was born in Allegan, Michigan on November 21, 1922 to Sereno Lynn and Irene Elizabeth (Smith) Taft. Joe served his country as an airplane and engine mechanic in the Army Air Corp during World War II. He worked for twenty five years as a machinist foreman at DuPont Sabine Riverworks, later established Brushy Creek Estates subdivision in Lumberton, TX, spent many years ranching cattle and was the longtime owner of Grapevine Mini-storage in Seguin, TX. Joe and Frances were avid bowlers and shared a passion for their monthly bus trips to Coushatta. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and great-great-grandfather. Our family will greatly miss the joy and love that Joe and Frances brought to us. He was preceded in death by his wife of 43 years, Frances Taft, on February 3, 2015, his parents, brothers, LaVern "Pudgy" Taft, Ray Taft, Raymond Taft, Harold Taft, and Donald Taft, son Glenn Anthony Taft, and stepsons Mark Milner and John Milner. Survivors include his sons Joseph P. Taft (Karen) of Eldridge, Iowa, and Lonnie D. Taft of Floresville, TX; daughters Doreen Taft of Seguin, TX, and Cynthia Gail Rach of San Marcos, TX; stepson Michael R. Milner of Kountze, TX, and stepdaughter Sharon Okum of Denver, CO; grandchildren Tammy Ann Wise, Angela Wise, Jamie Taft, Scott Taft, Angela Milner, Stephen Rach, Russell Rach, Darrell Okum, Renee Okum-Boykin, eight great-grandchildren and five great-great grandchildren.
