Josephine L. Bartels, age 87, of Seguin, passed away on May 30, 2016. Josephine will lie in state at Tres Hewell Mortuary on Thursday, June 2, 2016 from 1 -7 p.m. Memorial Service will be held on Saturday, June 4, 2016 at 11 a.m. at First United Methodist Church with Rev. Andy Smith, Rev. Ron Welborn, and Rev. Bill Knobles officiating. Private interment will be held at San Geronimo Cemetery.
Josephine was born on February 13, 1929 in Guadalupe County to Emil and Thelka (McDougall) Lambrecht. She was a graduate of Seguin High School, class of 1946, and attended Texas Lutheran College where she sang in the Texas Lutheran College choir. She was a life-long member of the First United Methodist Church of Seguin, a founding member of the Paulist Sunday School Class, and sang in the church choir for 70 years.
After marrying Walton H. Bartels in 1951, Josephine became a model housewife, cook, and was always noted for her classy appearance. Once she married Walton, she continued to live in her home on the Guadalupe River where she remained for the entirety of her life. Josephine later enjoyed working at First National Bank of Seguin.
Josephine is preceded in death by her husband, Walton; parents; sister, Leona Vorpahl; brother Lawrence Lambrecht. She is survived by her son, Dr. George Bartels; daughter Bonnie Bartels; grandchildren, Drs. Bradley Bartels and wife Hollis, Elizabeth Bartels; niece and nephews, Dwight Vorpahl and wife Jo, Andy Vorpahl, Larry Lambrecht, Phillip Lambrecht and wife Sherrie, Ron Schmidt and wife Janie, Harry Schmidt, Sharon Koebig, as well as numerous other loving family members and many friends. Honorary pallbearers will be Andy Vorpahl, Dwight Vorpahl, Phillip Lambrecht, Larry Lambrecht, Harry Schmidt, and Sydney Bauer. Josephine will be remembered as a loving mother, grandmother, aunt, and friend who loved music and sang with a very beautiful alto voice.
