Obituary

Jospehine Kathleen Robertson, age 92, passed away on May 1, 2018. Our Heavenly Father, her husband Frank, family and many friends met her at the gates of Heaven. She was born in Holden, West Virginia on October 6, 1925 to the late Jerry and Mary (Kuderfil) Janoski. She was raised in the mountains and coal towns of Virginia, Kentucky and West Virginia. Even though her formal education was limited to the sixth grade, she was inspired to read by her parents to whom she would read the newspaper. Her family moved to Evansville, IN. when she was 16. She married Howard Bailey and had two daughters. She worked as a welder during World War II but was not told what the parts went to that she welded. She always believed they were some part of a ship. In the late 1940's she moved to California where she met the love of her life, Frank J. Robertson. They married September 16, 1952 and spent 53 wonderful years together. They raised "the girls" Mary and Pat. The next 8 years the Air Force sent her and her family all over the United States and Europe. In 1963 they retired, moved to Texas and later to Florida. Her later years were spent traveling back and forth across the states visiting family and friends. She returned to Texas in 2000 and spent the remainder of her years living close to family. Her desire for education continued her whole life. She always took the newspaper and would read it from cover to cover. She read the latest novels and numerous magazines. Her worldly travels made her eager to increase her knowledge of history. She worked crossword puzzles and acquired an amazing vocabulary and spelling ability. She conversed with people who had college educations, many who could not believe she only had a 6th grade education. She amazed her grandchildren by telling them stories of her childhood in the mountains and the adventures she had while traveling in the United States and Europe. She loved animals and told stories about her mule, John, her dog, and being a good shot with a twenty-two rifle. She claimed she never "purposely" embellished stories to make them more interesting. She loved adventure and would camp in wild and out of the way places. Once while camping, coyotes were howling in the mountains. She began howling back at them. Grandpa had to make her get in to the camper and stop howling because the coyotes had walked right up to their camp fire. With all the fascinating things she did, she was most proud of her daughters and their families. She loved it when they all gathered for holidays or celebrations. At each gathering she loved to give a speech about her life and the marvel that she was responsible for all those present. She was preceded in death by her husband Frank Robertson, father Jerry, mother Mary, step-mother Annie Janoski, brothers Stanley and John Janoski, sisters, Nellie Milan and Helen Burkhalter, son-in-law, Herbert Koenig, grandson-in-law, Sonny Dillard and great-grandson, Gabriel Koenig. Survivors include her daughters, Mary Koenig, Pat Tucker and husband Duff, 8 grandchildren; 7 step-grandchildren; numerous great-grandchildren; step-great-grandchildren; great-great grandchildren and step-great-great grandchildren; numerous nieces, nephews and other loving family members. She was loved by all and will be greatly missed. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, May 5, 2018 at 2 p.m. at Tres Hewell Mortuary Chapel with Deacon Nick Carrillo officiating. Interment will follow in San Geronimo Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to the charity of one's choice.
