Justyne Johnson Banks, formerly of Georgetown, TX, died in Seguin on June 10, 2012 at the age of 90. Arrangements are under the direction of Tres Hewell Mortuary,

A private, family burial will take place at a later date.

Justyne was born to William Parks Johnson and Eula Dodd Johnson in Marshall, TX on August 6, 1921, where she lived until she graduated from Marshall High School in 1938. Just prior to her graduation, she met a dashing young ministerial student from Texas Christian University who was ten years her senior. Charmed by his good looks, beautiful tenor voice and unwavering kindness, she married him on June 29, 1938 and they were together until he died on December 22, 1992.

Upon his graduation from Brite Divinity School in Ft. Worth, Reverend Banks, with young bride at his side, served as a minister to several 1st Christian Churches in Texas. He remained in that capacity until the outbreak of WWII when he was commissioned as a Lieutenant and became a Chaplain in the United States Army. Justyne and Bruce embarked on tours of duty at various posts in the United States, as well as in France, Alaska and Germany, making life-long friends at each. Justyne loved the Army life and in addition to being a wife and a mother to three children, she became a "remote mom" and confidant to hundreds of soldiers that she and Bruce invited into their homes over the course of 21 years in the Army. Encouraging words and delicious meals were generously served to young men who would continue to stay in touch for years to come.

Justyne was a multi-talented woman. She was an excellent cook, accomplished singer, organist, potter, china painter, flower arranger and an expert on antiques. She had a terrific sense of humor, and loved to good-naturedly tease people.

Following a stroke in October of 2009, Justyne eventually became a resident at Remarkable Healthcare in Seguin where she was lovingly cared for by excellent staff, a host of friends and her family. The family wishes to thank everyone who continued to enrich Justyne's life as her health declined. To the end she was a Christian, a true Texan and a patriotic American.

In addition to her husband, Justyne was preceded in death by her parents, William and Eula Johnson, a sister Genevieve Johnson, a brother William Johnson and a sister Jeannette Johnson Norton.

Survivors include her daughters, Judyth Haun, and husband Les of Nashville, TN, Jeannette "Jet" Crabb, and husband Bobby of Seguin, TX, son, Edwin Bruce Banks, Jr. of Marshall, TX, and two special ladies who became like daughters to her—Jeanette West of Temple, TX and Sue Watson (husband Bill) of West Columbia, S.C. Mrs. Banks is also survived by three grandchildren, Steven Haun (wife Lynn) of Gallatin, TN, Michelle Way (husband Kel) of Smyrna, TN and Jack Robinson (Rob) Stanley, of Seguin, TX. Great-grandchildren include Dylan and Sean Way and Auburn Haun.
