Katherine Lynn "Kathy" Fealy Matalik, age 74 of Seguin, passed away on January 11, 2024. Kathy was born on December 20, 1949 in Corpus Christi, Texas to Doris Jane (Manak) and Michael Joseph Fealy. She was raised in Kingsville and attended Texas A & I in Kingsville (now A & M) receiving her Bachelor's Degree in Biology.
After living in Key West with her former husband while he served in the military, they returned to Texas and settled in Seguin in 1978. Kathy was a beloved middle school science teacher and librarian at St. James Catholic School for many years. She loved her St. James Catholic Church, her Church Family and teaching. Music was a favorite of hers and it shined through as she served as the church organist, taught piano and served as an active choir member. Kathy also was a member of the St. Ann's Circle at St. James.
After retirement from St. James Catholic School, Kathy pursued an advanced degree at Texas State University in anthropology, as it always interested her. Kathy was an avid bird watcher, amateur geologist and enjoyed traveling throughout the United States with family and friends.
Kathy is preceded in death by her parents and sister, Linda Arnold.
Survivors include her loving sons, Mark Matalik and wife Leah, and Russell Matalik; grandchildren who knew and loved her as "Grandma", Luke Matalik and Ashley Matalik; siblings, James "Jim" Fealy, Dennis Fealy, Barry Fealy and wife Lisa, and Cara Choate and husband Aaron; brother-in-law, Leroy Arnold; former husband, Mike Matalik; nieces, Amy Salazar, Julie Heth, Christie Fealy, Angie Fealy, and Bobbie Fealy; other loving family members and many, many friends including former students.
The recitation of the Holy Rosary will begin on Friday, February 2, 2024 at 10:30 a.m. at St. James Catholic Church followed by the Mass of Christian Burial at 11 a.m. with the Reverend Canon Stanislaw Fiuk, the Reverend Monsignor Dennis Darilek and the Reverend Gregory Nevlud officiating. Interment will follow in the St. James Catholic Church Cemetery.
