Kermit W. Altwein, age 83 of Seguin, passed away on July 12, 2009. Visitation will be held on Thursday, July 16, 2009 at Tres Hewell Mortuary from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. with the family receiving friends from 5 to 7 p.m. Funeral services will be conducted on Friday, July 17, 2009 at Cross United Church of Christ at 3:00 p.m. with Rev. Jim Price officiating. Interment will follow in Guadalupe Valley Memorial Park. Kermit was born on November 10, 1925 in Guadalupe County to Arthur Adolph and Ida Stautzenberger Altwein. This year the Altwein Farm, where Kermit grew up, was recognized by the Family Land Heritage Program for 150 years service. He had a deep love of the land and of his family heritage. Kermit spent most of his working career with Western and Southern Life. He was a past member of the Seguin evening Lions for many years. Also, the Elks Lodge and Hermann Sons. In recent years, he and Marilyn have spent much time with the Texas Agricultural education Heritage Center. They enjoyed travelling, especially visits to see the grandchildren. For the past 40 years he was a member of Cross United Church of Christ. He is preceded in death by his parents and 1 brother and 4 sisters. Survivors include his wife of 53 years, Marilyn Schleicher Altwein; daughter, Susan Thibodeaux and husband, Bennie; son, Arthur Altwein and wife, Linda; grandchildren, Cody Thibodeaux, Nicole Thibodeaux, Dante Perez, Quentin Perez, Andre Altwein, Austin Altwein; sister, Lorine Reichert and husband, Ray; numerous nieces, nephews, numerous other family members and a host of friends.
