Kimberly Ann [Shupe] Copeland passed away on March 13 th , 2022 at the age of 36, in Seguin, Texas after battling cancer. She was born on September 23 rd , 1985 to William & Sheryl Shupe in Boone, Iowa.
Kimberly was Valedictorian of the Seguin High School class of 2004. She received her Bachelor of Science in Chemistry from Texas Lutheran University in 2008, and graduated Magna cum Laude.
In 2013, Kimberly married Doug Copeland of San Marcos. In 2016, they welcomed their daughter, Kaylee Jayne.
Kimberly will be missed by her students and colleagues at Seguin High School, where she spent the last 12 years teaching Chemistry and Physics. In addition to her classroom duties, she led the school's Science Fair program, including mentoring students advancing to state and national competitions. Kimberly loved her students and supported her coworkers, and she genuinely wanted to help all of them be the best they could be.
Kimberly was a lifelong musician. She was formerly a member of the Seguin Community Jazz Band in addition to marching with the Mighty Matador Marching Band, playing with the wind ensemble and jazz band at both Seguin High School and Texas Lutheran University, and singing with numerous choirs, most recently with the Seguin High School Faculty Choir. She represented both the trombones and the altos well and forever bemoaned the fact that altos were not generally ingenues.
Kimberly was also an avid reader of cozy mysteries and science fiction. She loved watching Dr. Who, Star Trek, and The West Wing, and sent no shortage of out-of-context quotes to her siblings.
Kimberly is survived by her husband Doug, daughter Kaylee, mother Sheryl Shupe of Kingsbury, mother-in-law Patricia Jentsch, sister Katherine & husband Robert DeVet of Lubbock, Texas, brother William & wife Alicia Shupe of Bartlesville, Oklahoma, numerous aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces and a nephew. She is preceded in death by her father, William (Bill) F. Shupe of Kingsbury, Texas.
A memorial service will be held on Saturday, March 26, 2022 at 4 p.m. at Emanuel's Lutheran Church in Seguin with the Rev. Tim Bauerkemper officiating.
