Leonel Arthur (Jack) Junker was born July 31, 1924 in Arneckeville, Texas to Arthur W. Junker and Lena S. Hausman. He passed from this earth on June 5th, 2013. Jack always said he knew so many people in and around Cuero because he attended so many rural elementary schools in Dewitt County and Cuero High School. After school he went to work for Civil Service as an apprentice machinist at San Antonio Air Depot, Duncan Field. After the Pearl Harbor attack, he joined the US Navy and served in the Asiatic Pacific aboard the USSSC-752 (sub chaser) and after the war escorted ships from Hawaii to Alaska, turning them over to the Russian Navy as part of the lend-lease program. He was then stationed in San Diego and San Francisco, Treasure Island and Camp Parks, working with German POW's until being discharged in February, 1946. Upon returning home to Cuero, Texas he met and married the love of his life, Bernice (Rocky) Aldis. They had one son, Richard Duane Junker, Sr. He was preceded in death by his parents and son. He is survived by his wife, Rocky Junker, two grandsons, Richard D. Junker, Jr., and wife Stephanie of Devils Lake, North Dakota, Kirt A. Junker of San Antonio, Texas, and one brother, Alton L. Junker and wife Nita, of Cuero, Texas and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. In 1949 Jack went back to Civil Service serving at Foster Field in Victoria, Texas, Lackland AFB, (joining the 433rd Troup carrier wing), Kelly AFB and Randolph AFB, retiring with 33 years in civil service. In 1969 he served as a part-time Deputy Constable under Constables Arno Thormeyer, Don Setliff and Edgar Kutcher. In Sept., 1990 Jack was honored by Jim Maddox, Attorney General of Texas for outstanding service and leadership which benefited the citizens of Texas and the Criminal Justice System. He went to work for Lear Seigler a contractor at Randolph Air Force Base for 12 more years. He retired completely in 1998. After moving to Seguin the couple joined Emanuel's Lutheran Church where Jack ushered for many years and was active in the Cub Scout Troup. He was a member of VFW Post 8456 in Geronimo. In November 2003, the couple joined Faith Lutheran Church. He was a member of the McQueeney Lions Club and Guadalupe County Sheriff's Mounted Posse and enjoyed riding with four different trail rides, especially to the Stock Show in San Antonio. He loved dancing to country-western music, camping and fishing with his grandsons and trips to Port Aransas and Table Top Lake in Missouri. Special thanks go to his caregivers, Nancy Serna and husband Rene and James Johnson and his wife Karen, Erika Alemon, Loretta Cole, Leonora Tavera, Guadalupe Regional Hospice nurses and nurses aids (his girls), Rose Mary Flores and Marie Villareal, Guadalupe Home Health and Guadalupe Regional in hospital hospice and Dr. Arlynn Hartfiel for his medical care over the last 10 years. A memorial service celebrating Jack's life will be held on Wednesday, June 19, 2013 at 10:00 am at Faith Lutheran Church in Seguin. Interment will follow Wednesday, June 19, 2013 at 2:00 pm at Hillside Cemetery in Cuero, Texas.
