Larry Joseph Hermes

November 25, 1942 – July 11, 2025

Larry Joseph Hermes- husband, father and Papa, was born in Hondo, Texas to Hubert and Bernice Hermes. He was raised in and around Hondo, Quihi, and New Fountain where he learned to love the country around him. He was a man of God and married the love of his life, Dorothy Lee (Coy) on November 28, 1964. Last year they celebrated 60 wonderful love-filled years together.

They were blessed with 2 children, Scott Hermes (Allison) and Sheryn Bertling (Curtis), and four grandchildren, Curtis Joseph Bertling (Lana), Maycie Clary (Christopher), Garrett Joseph Hermes (Kayla), and Emmett Hermes.

He retired from the U.S. Postal Service after 44 years of service without ever taking a sick day. Larry was a man of many talents and could fix anything that was broken. He was the dad in the neighborhood that all of the kids and adults would come to have their bike, car, light switch, or lawn mower fixed, and never wanted anything in return. His southside neighborhood of over 57 years will miss the man that showed compassion, respect, and love to all. The neighborhood will forever have an empty spot without him there, but his love will linger on for many, many years. He was always there to lend a hand and was always happy to help. He amazed everyone with his brute strength time and time again through the years, but was such a gentle soul. He was the best, most dedicated, and loving husband and father; However, when his grandchildren came along his love for them was something beautiful to see. His grandchildren were his absolute pride and joy and they each think he hung the moon. He knew how loved and special he was by those of us on earth and is now experiencing the overwhelming love of Jesus in Heaven.

He is survived by his wife, Dorothy, his children, grandchildren, sister, Marcy Hermes Zerr, nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
