Obituary

Leatha Fay Jeffrey gained her wings to heaven at the age of 100 on March 21, 2024. Leatha was born on August 8, 1923, in Oklahoma to Retie Ceula and Harvey D. Cash. Harvey Cash was a Primitive Baptist minister. Leatha grew up and attended school in the Marlow, Oklahoma area until the late 1930's, when her dad was called on to minister at a church in the Rio Grande Valley. The family packed up all their belongings and settled in the Lyford, Texas area. Leatha learned at an early age about the Lord and hard work on the farm. Leatha was a member of the Bethel Primitive Baptist Church and attended many church associations around the state with her father. In the declining years of her parents, she helped with their needs and doctor appointments.

After graduating from Lyford High School in 1942, she trained in Corpus Christi as a Rosie Riveter. Leatha later moved to Harlingen, Texas, and worked for a Nash Car Dealership as a bookkeeper. She later took her talents to Matz Electric where she met David Jeffrey. Leatha married David and set out on their life's adventure. David had an interest in farming and with the help of his father-in-law, Harvey Cash, Leatha and David moved to Lyford to begin a life of farming.

Leatha also continued working as a bookkeeper at the coop gin.

When David passed away in 1985, Leatha continued to work at her office building in Raymondville, Texas, until her retirement. After retirement, Leatha enjoyed taking tours all over the United States including Alaska, Hawaii, and Canada.  Her interests included cooking, canning, and her main interest quilting.

Leatha is preceded in death by her husband, David Jeffrey, her parents, her brothers Milton Cash, John Troy Cash, Don Cash, Lyndon Cash, and Aaron Cash, and her sister Loretta Risica.

Survivors include her daughter Beatrice Jane Tomlinson (Monty) and son, Calvin Lee (Sharon); two sisters LaRee Morrow and Lela Adams; Her memory will also be cherished by her grandchildren Brandon Tomlinson (Amy), Tiffany Newkirk (Mike), Scott Jeffrey (Britney), and Craig Jeffrey (Haley);

Leatha's legacy will live on with the addition of 8 great-grandchildren, Cameron and DeLaney Tomlinson, Braz and Monty Glenn Newkirk, Mark and Erik Jeffrey, and Case and Caroline Jeffrey; numerous nieces, nephews other loving family members and friends.

Leatha was a true and loving person who enjoyed helping all who knew her.

Visitation will begin on Friday, April 5, 2024, at 2 p.m. at Tres Hewell Mortuary Chapel in Seguin followed by a funeral service at 3 p.m. with Elder Sonny Huckaby officiating.

Graveside services and interment will be held on Saturday, April 6, 2024, at 2 p.m. at the Evergreen Cemetery in Lyford, Texas.  Serving as pallbearers will be Calvin Jeffrey, Scott Jeffrey, Craig Jeffrey, Brandon Tomlinson, Michael Newkirk, and Ron Risica.
