Leola "Penny" Johnson, age 92, of San Antonio, passed away June 20, 2024. She was born April 15, 1932, in New Bremen, Texas in Karnes County, to Freddie and Laura (Huth) Jauer.

Penny attended a one room school not far from her parent's farm and later graduated from Karnes City High School in 1949. After graduation she attended secretarial school and later worked at the old Frost Bank building in San Antonio.

On March 17, 1952, she married her long-time sweetheart Jack Johnson. She became a military wife and thus began a journey of moving from base to base during her husbands over twenty-year career.

Penny loved polka dancing and traveling to the many polka fests. She also enjoyed reading and watching all types of sports on tv.

Penny is preceded in death by her parents Freddie and Laura Jauer, and sister Velma Ewald.

She is survived by her husband, Jack Johnson; daughter, Diane Winton (Steve); son, Dennis Johnson (Wynne); granddaughters, Stacey Winton, Julie Cruz and Melanie Malone. She is also survived by six great-grandchildren, two nephews, and many other loving family members and friends.

Funeral services will be held on Friday, June 28, 2024, at 1:30 p.m. at Tres Hewell Mortuary Chapel with the Reverend Tom Jones officiating. Interment will follow at Guadalupe Valley Memorial Park.
