Leroy Sommer, Jr., age 66 of Seguin, passed away on September 20, 2015. Visitation will be held at Tres Hewell Mortuary on Tuesday, September 22, 2015 from 5 to 7 p. m. Graveside services and interment, with military honors under the auspices of the American Legion H. U. Wood Post 245, will be held on Wednesday, September 23 at 10:30 a.m. at San Geronimo Cemetery with Rev. Jeremy Roy officiating. Leroy was born on May 3, 1949 in Guadalupe County to Leroy and Eleanor (Vorpahl) Sommer. After graduating from high school, Leroy entered the United States Army, where he served in Vietnam. Upon his discharge, he went to work at Alamo Group as a CAD designer. He later changed vocations and worked as a welder for Armortex. Leroy was an avid outdoorsman; he loved to hunt, fish, and work in his garden. He was also active in several groups and was a member of the First Baptist Church in Seguin, and later the Kingsbury Baptist Church. Leroy is preceded in death by his wife Jean Sommer, and his parents. Survivors include his sisters, Betty Pearmon and husband Paul, Shirley Palmour, and Dorothy (Susie) Goodman and husband Rocky; step-son Dean Urbanski; as well as numerous nieces and nephews. Memorial contributions may be made to charity of choice.
