Obituary

Louis Patrick Naumann, aged 76, died peacefully on August 31, 2016, at Guadalupe Regional Medical Center, surrounded by loving family members. A kind, thoughtful, and creative man, Louie was truly everyone's favorite uncle. He will be greatly missed by all who knew him.

Born on September 29, 1939, Louie was a descendant of a German immigrant family who settled in the Seguin area in 1848; he was the youngest of the seven children of Willie and Katie Naumann. He is survived by his beloved and devoted sister, Catherine Covey, his sister-in-law, Georgia Lee Naumann, and a large extended family of relatives. He was pre-deceased by his siblings, Viola Nagel, George Naumann, Herman Naumann, Jerome Naumann, and Willoris Jones.

Louie was an uncle to 22 nieces and nephews and more than 30 great nieces and great nephews; he had a genuine interest in each one, taking great delight in hearing about their lives and making them feel valued and special.

Growing up, Louie attended local public schools, graduating from Seguin High School in 1958. He loved art, studying painting and drawing in San Antonio after working his day job in town at Vogue Shoes. He also enjoyed photography and film; and shot many hours of home movies at family gatherings. In the 1960's, he had the opportunity to learn computer programming, which became his career, but he never lost his interest in the arts.

He became a civil servant and worked for the Army and Air Force Exchange Service for 30 years before his retirement. One of his greatest thrills was the opportunity to work overseas. He enjoyed living in Germany for an extended period, traveling extensively throughout Europe and collected art and antiques. He transferred back to Texas in the 1970's, and settled in the Dallas area, where he lived for more than 35 years.

Louie was proud of his home, which was filled with his extensive collection of books, art, and European antiques and furnishings. He enjoyed visiting regularly with his circle of friends, as well as hosting family reunions. An extremely organized and precise man with beautiful penmanship, he wrote in his journal daily.

In the last decade, Louie's health declined as he battled kidney disease. He returned to the Central Texas area with his sister, Catherine, to be closer to his extended family.

There will be a memorial service for Louis Naumann on Saturday, September 10, at 10:30 a.m. at the Tres Hewell Mortuary, 165 Tor Drive, Seguin, followed immediately by a celebration of his life at the Seguin Silver Center, 510 East Court Street, Seguin. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests that a donation be made in the name of Louis Naumann to the Seguin Art League, PO Box 445, Seguin, TX 78156.
