Obituary

Louis Siro Scopel, age 76 of Seguin, and formerly from Meadowlakes, and Richmond, entered eternal rest Wednesday December 12, 2012 at University Hospital in San Antonio. Visitation will be 5:00 pm till 7:00 pm on December 14, 2012 at Tres Hewell Mortuary in Seguin, Texas. A Rosary led by the Fourth Degree Knights of Columbus will be said at 10:00 AM, followed by a funeral Mass at 10:30 AM, Saturday December 15, both services at St. James Catholic Church in Seguin, Texas. Entombment will follow in St. James Catholic Cemetery Mausoleum. Louis was born August 2, 1936, in Houston, Texas, to Primo J. and Maria (Biondini) Scopel. He married Katherine Louise Keil in Seguin, TX on June 1, 1963, and was a devoted husband, father and grandfather. He took great pride in Erin, his special granddaughter. With the encouragement and support of his mentor Raymond Stotzer Jr., he graduated from Texas A & M with a degree in Accounting. He has continued that encouragement and support for prospective students through the establishment of the Louis & Kay Scopel Scholarship Fund at Texas A & M. Late in his working life he felt the academic urge to return to school and graduated from Houston Baptist University with a Masters of Accounting. Louis retired from the Goodyear Tire & Rubber Co – Chemical Division. He was Bayport Chemical Plant Comptroller and later Division Quality Control Engineer, where he secured prestigious recognitions for the Chemical Division. Another satisfaction was serving as an Accounting Instructor at San Jacinto College. Louis loved the fire service and was a volunteer in Seguin, Freeport and Richmond. He retired from the City of Richmond Fire Department where he was selected as Firefighter of the Year and held multiple elected and appointed offices in State and area emergency organizations. Louis was a member of St. James Catholic Church of Seguin, member of the Knights of Columbus Council 3412 and Assembly 2055, Past Grand Knight of Council 13255, Past Faithful Navigator of Assembly 2055 and past District 127 Warden; The Texas A&M Former Students Association; Seguin A & M Club; Burnet County Emergency Services Council and Richmond Fire Department. In addition, he served as city Councilman and Mayor pro tem of the City of Meadowlakes, as well as numerous city, POA committees and advisory groups. His tenacity to succeed in what ever endeavor he chose earned him a reputation as "…a hound dog with a bull dog bite…" Louis took special pride in his ancestry, and being a first generation American and zealously researched his Scopel and Biondini Italian roots. He and Kay also hold dual citizenship in Italy and the USA. He was preceded in death by his parents Primo Joseph Scopel and Maria Biondini Scopel, grandparents Luigi and Carmelina Andrei Biondini and Siro and Domenica De Paoli Scopel. Survivors: Wife Kay Keil Scopel of Seguin, TX, Daughter Sharon Lea (Scopel) Ferguson and husband, Leonard Ferguson of Richmond, TX, Son Robert Scopel and fiancée Sharon Vandergriff of Stinnett TX; Granddaughter Erin Victoria Ferguson of Richmond, TX; Brothers Allen J. Scopel and wife, Suzy, of Rosenberg, TX, and Paul A. Scopel and wife, Eda, of Marietta, GA; Uncle James Scopel of Manvel, Texas, and numerous cousins, nephews, nieces, personal and professional friends.
