LTC John B. Neely, USA (ret.), age 82, of Seguin, passed away on November 11, 2010. Visitation will be held on Wednesday, November 17, 2010 at Tres Hewell Mortuary from 11 a.m. to 6:30 p.m. with the family receiving friends from 4:30 p. m. to 6:30 p.m. Funeral services will be conducted on Thursday, November 18, 2010 at 9:30 a.m. at Tres Hewell Mortuary Chapel with Mr. Alan Tullis officiating. Interment with full military honors will follow at Fort Sam Houston National Cemetery. LTC Neely was born on May 5, 1928 in Dallas Texas to Charles and Vaudrene Parker Neely. As a member of the Texas A & M College Class of 1948 he received a bachelor's degree in Industrial education before being elected to the Port Isabel City Council. He served the Army with distinction for 20 years in the Korean Police Action, Vietnam War and as Armor Field Advisor to the Army of the Republic of China, Taiwan. He was awarded 2 Bronze Stars and a Purple Heart. He received his Masters in Education from the University of Texas at El Paso. Following retirement he served as teacher and mentor in the Ysleta School district. He is the author of an Army Manual "Riverine Warfare" and "Musings of a Retired Soldier" and the composer of "By the Rio San Pedro". His parents preceded him in death. He will be remembered with great loss by La Verne Chant, the love of his life. He is survived by his children Charles Russell Neely and wife Elaine, Laura Neely Pershouse and husband Jonathan, Cheryl Ann Dronzek and Robert Bruce Neely; grandchildren, Kathleen Eden, Alan Neely, Audrey Wormington, Brett Neely, Colin Pershouse, Brand Pershouse, and John Dronzek. three great grandchildren; sister Mary Jo Willings; several nieces and nephews.
