Obituary

Lucile "Ma" Moore, died Friday July 14th at the age of 97. Preceded in death by her husband Shipp, parents Lena and Henry Buerger, brother Theo Buerger, and sisters Zella Buerger and Bessie Brown. Lucile is survived by her daughter Margaret and husband Joe Mueller; son Mark and Wife Genevieve Moore; grandchildren Paul and wife Karen Mueller; Donna and husband Syd Hall; and Kyle Moore; great-grandchildren Tee and Christianna Mueller and Connor and Wyatt Hall; and nephew Jim Smith. Friends and family are invited to the Mcqueeney home of Joe and Margaret Mueller, 405 Spyglass, Treasure Island, 7:00 P.M. Saturday, July 30th to celebrate Lucile's long life with food, drink, and stories. Lucile's full life was always punctuated by her indomitable spirit. Her zest for living infused everything she did and impacted everyone she met. From playing bridge where she was a feared opponent and not above criticizing a partner, to ranching, to tubing the Guadalupe River, to traveling the world, Lucile was always on the go. Lucile's generosity was exhibited through her volunteering at the Silver Center Thrift Shop, St. Andrew's Cornerstone Bookstore, the Juvenile Detention Center, and for Meals on Wheels as Lucile "Loose Wheels" Moore, delivering meals to the needy via her son's speedy sports car. Lucile also hosted numerous foreign exchange students and always had an extra place or two at the holiday dinner table for those without family. Neighbors visited almost nightly as she shared her stories and a night cap beneath a starlit sky. Lucile's adventurous nature and desire to see the world was fueled by her more than forty moves with her husband Shipp as he worked as an Exxon Mobil geophysicist. Her travels spanned the globe as she ventured to such far away places as England, China, the Galapagos Islands, the Amazon, Egypt, Alaska, and Machu Picchu. Ma shared her love of travel and adventure with her grandchildren and numerous children from her Elmwood neighborhood. For years, Ma hit the trail with her "camping kids" in tow. Often as many as ten kids ventured to "Aunt Julia's" River Road campground on the Guadalupe, Port Aransas, a multitude of state parks, Nuevo Laredo, Utah and Colorado for white water rafting, or her beloved family ranch in Dilley. Ma educated her "campers" in the fine arts of camp fire building and stoking, crabbing, shooting, fishing, swimming, tubing, story telling, improvisational cooking, dominoes, card games, and a host of other invaluable skills. The family extends its deepest gratitude to Rose Martinez, Lucile's primary caregiver in her last years. We could not have wished for a more loving, caring, and capable person. In addition, the family wishes to thank Regina Lee, along with several others, for the care and concern provided to Lucile. Guadalupe Valley Hospice was invaluable in Lucile's last weeks.
