Maggie Lanehart died at the age of 89 on Monday, January 21, 2008, in Katy, Texas, following a brief illness. She had resided in Alpine, Texas, for the past 18 years, before moving to Katy to live with her daughter in September of 2007. Graveside services will be held on Saturday January 26 at 2:00 p.m. in the San Geronimo Cemetery in Seguin, Texas, at 2:00 p.m. She was born October 8, 1918, in Seguin, Texas, to Jesse and Caldona Perkins McKee. She was married to John Lanehart on February 23, 1937, in Carlsbad, New Mexico, and they had 54 years of marriage before he passed away in 1991. Maggie was a "west Texas gal" most of her married life, graduated from high school in Barstow, Texas, and loved being outdoors, taking walks, reading and working crossword puzzles.
She was preceded in death by her husband John, brothers Shirley Taylor and Jasper McKee, and sister Wilma Scott. She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Marilyn and Phil Tibbets of Katy, Texas; grandson Bart Tibbets and wife Monika of El Paso, Texas; grandson Bret Tibbets and wife Melanie of Lincoln, Nebraska; great-grandchildren.....Grant, Hunter and Keira of El Paso, Texas and Madison and Lauren of Lincoln, Nebraska; along with several nieces and nephews. She will also be missed greatly by her "new best friend" Allie McBeagle. The family requests memorials be made to Resolutions Hospice, 21720 Kingsland Blvd., # 304; Katy, Texas 77450.
