Obituary

Malcolm Charles Marion, Sr., died at the age of 90 on Monday, May 09, 2016. A memorial service will be held at First Baptist Church on Friday, May 27, 2016, at 10:30 a.m. with Rev. Dr. Brice Mandaville officiating. A reception will follow in the Courtyard of First Baptist Church. Private interment will be at Guadalupe Valley Memorial Park. Malcolm was born on October 17, 1925, in New Braunfels, Texas, to Alphons and Lottie Louise (Grosgebauer) Marion. He was a veteran of World War II, serving with the 100th Infantry Division in the Battle of the Bulge in the fall of 1944. On May 29, 1948, he married Margaret (Peggy) Yager and upon his graduation from U.T. Austin with a B.S. in Pharmacy, they moved to Seguin. He worked at and later owned Williams Drug Store, retiring after thirty years of service. He was the first chairman of the Seguin-Guadalupe Ambulance Service which later became EMS. He served as a director of Seguin State Bank and Trust for thirteen years and served with the Seguin Planning and Zoning Board for a number of years. He was an active member of First Baptist Church, serving on a number of committees and as a deacon. Upon his retirement, he stayed busy making furniture, doing wood carving, and building models. He did volunteer repair work at his church and made toy furniture for children's Sunday School classes. In later years, he became an avid flower gardener. He was in charge of landscaping the new sanctuary at First Baptist Church in the early 1980's and during its update twenty years later. He was preceded in death by his parents, infant grandson Robert Marion, and granddaughter Margaret Marion. He is survived by his wife, Peggy; children, Malcolm Charles Marion, Jr. and wife Sue, Bruce Marion and wife Lynne, and Beth Henry and husband Sam; six grandchildren, Laura Marion-Faul and husband Erick, Elizabeth Raethel and husband Harlie, Rebecca Wolfe and husband Dustin, Matthew Marion, Christopher Henry, and Gail Schievelbein and husband Jeff; one sister, Frances Presson, as well as nine great-grandchildren; numerous nieces, nephews, other loving family members and many friends.
