Marena Johanna Schubert Evola, age 84 of Geronimo, Texas passed away on January 25, 2024. Marena was born on October 2, 1939 in New Braunfels, Texas to Selda B. (Dietert) and Martin B. Schubert.
Marena, or as she was affectionately known to all in the Geronimo area, "Miss Renie" graduated high school and joined the Army where she served as a nurse. While stationed at Ft. Dix, New Jersey, she met the love of her life, Nick P. Evola, Jr. They married, moved back to Louisiana, and then to Texas where they settled in Geronimo in 1972.
Miss Renie was Geronimo's best at-home day care and she sure loved the babies. She retired after 20 years of loving and nurturing the babies and toddlers to continue her love of sewing, arts and crafts, as well as baking her delicious home-made bread. Miss Renie was a beautiful and loving wife, mother, aunt, and grandmother (Nana). She will be tremendously missed by her family and friends.
Marena is preceded in death by her parents, her brothers Timothy and Terry, and her daughter Grace Bourlon.
Survivors include her loving husband of 63 years, Nick P. Evola, Jr.; children, Johanna Bender, N. Philip Evola, III (Izumi), Paul Evola (Christy), and Ronald Evola (Michele); her brother Martin "Butch" Schubert; her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Visitation will begin on Thursday, February 1, 2024 at 9 a.m. at Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church followed by the recitation of the Holy Rosary at 9:30 a.m. and the Mass of Christian Burial at 10 a.m. including military honors.
Interment will follow in Fort Sam Houston National Cemetery at a later date.
