Obituary

Margaret Fannin Vinyard, age 93 of Seguin, was born on June 14, 1917 in San Antonio, Texas and she died on July 14, 2010 in Seguin, Texas at Nesbit LRC from complications of vascular dementia. She is preceded in death by her husband, Victor Vinyard; parents, John Henry and Floy Ellie Miller Fannin; brother, Henry J. Fannin; and sister, Dorothy McLennan. She is survived by her brothers, William Warner Fannin and wife Dorothy of Floresville and Ernest Ray Fannin and wife Edna Mae of LaVernia. She is also survived by her two daughters: Nancy Virden and husband Gentry, Suzanne Isaacs, pastor of El Campo 1st UMC, and husband Tom. She is also survived by her sister-in-law, Dorothy Lea Taylor of Seguin; five grandchildren, Lisa Dyer of Rio Grande City, TX; Matthew Virden of Seguin, TX; Amanda Virden of San Antonio, TX; Timothy Isaacs of San Jose, California; and Christopher Isaacs of Joshua, TX; and eight great-grandchildren, as well as numerous nieces and nephews. Margaret taught school in Staples, TX and in Seguin ISD, retiring in 1976, where she taught 3rd grade at Jefferson Avenue Elementary School. After retiring, she and Victor traveled throughout the United States and in England and Europe. She returned to her love of painting, sharing her gifts with family, friends, and in public showings. They loved square dancing with friends in and around San Antonio. Both Margaret and Victor were charter members of the Paulist Sunday School class at 1st United Methodist Church. Margaret was a charter member of the local chapter of the Delta Kappa Gamma teachers' society in Seguin, Texas. Margaret served in key education offices at the local and state level and was a member of the Seguin Educators' Association. She served as a Pink Lady at the Guadalupe County Hospital. Margaret always gave of herself to others and loved her life as a teacher and artist. The family wishes to thank Seguin Assisted Living, Argent Courts, and Nesbit Nursing Home for their tender loving care and devotion to Margaret. Your care helped her to live a quality of life in her last years. We especially thank Compassus Hospice Care workers and chaplain who tended to mother in her final days. A memorial service will be held at 1st United Methodist Church, Seguin, Texas at 10:30 a.m., Monday, July 19, 2010. The Rev. Steve Purdy, The Rev. Diana Phillips and The Rev. Clint Harris will officiate. In lieu of flowers, you may give to the Memorial Fund of your choice or to the 1st UMC, 710 N. Austin St., Seguin, TX 78155.
