Maria Carmella Papaianni Ross Tyfair died on Christmas Day in San Antonio Texas after a long stay at Methodist Stone Oak Hospital in San Antonio Texas. Mrs. Tyfair was born July 16, 1921 in East Syracuse NY. She graduated from high school and worked as head cashier and bookkeeper at the Leo's Big M grocery store in East Syracuse until she retired. She sang in a number of groups including the St. Matthew's Catholic Church Choir and the Berwald Singers. Mrs. Tyfair was the daughter of Pasquale and Grace Papaianni. She was predeceased by two husbands – Wallace Ross and Wesley Robert Tyfair; and one son, Max Anthony Ross. She is survived by a son, Wallace P. Ross and his wife, Patricia; a son Christopher Ross and his companion, Eloise G. Champagne; a daughter Barbara Wick and her husband, Donn; and a daughter Rosemary Gross and her husband, Jack. Mrs. Tyfair has six grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren. She is also survived by four siblings – Anthony Papaianni and his wife, Sarah; Nazarene Papaianni; Frank Papaianni and his wife, Joan; and A. Mary Papaianni. Due to family illness her interment was delayed. A rosary will be held 4 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 24, 2013 at St. Matthews (E.Syr.) with a funeral mass at 9 a.m. Monday, Nov. 25 also at St. Matthews. Interment will be at St. Mary's Cemetery (Dewitt) following the mass.
