IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Maribeth Plott
Baize
November 14, 1922 – June 19, 2023
Maribeth Baize (Plott), 100 years old, formerly of Hondo, TX departed this earth June 19, 2023 at home in Luling, TX.
She was born November 14, 1922 in Marlin, TX, the daughter of Clyde Plott and Bessie Merle Inglet. She grew up and attended schools and met the love of her life, Bruce Baize, in Marlin. They were married in 1939 and made their home initially in Waco, TX. Shortly after Bruce joined the Army Airforce and became a fighter pilot and participated in WWII European Campaign. This led to him having a long career in the U.S. Air Force and included moves around the world for Maribeth and their four children.
Maribeth was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and friend. She loved to laugh and her quirky sense of humor and witty one-liners could always put a smile on your face. She was also a social butterfly and enjoyed dancing with her husband and spending time with her beloved friends. She had an opportunity while living in the Philippines to learn the art of watercolor and perfected her artistry through the years creating beautiful still-life portraits. Once stateside and retired the couple settled in Hondo and it was the combination of her love of jewelry and his of rock hounding that they decided to open Bruce's Rock Shop, creating a family business where grandchildren could be found working behind the counter. Her paintings went from canvas to wildlife scenes on geodes and were a huge hit with tourists. In her later years, her kindness and genuine love of people were apparent in her daily interactions with staff while living in assisted facilities. She was the constant companion to her granddaughter, Andrea Garver of Luling, TX. Her contagious smile and humor will be missed every day. She will always be loved beyond compare and the memories she leaves us with will always hold special places in our hearts.
Maribeth is survived by her sons, Robert Baize and wife Gerri Baize, Brett Baize; son-in-law Wayne Rountree; 9 grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren, 2 great-great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews. She is preceded in death by her beloved husband Lt. Col. Bruce Baize; parents; sister Joy and husband Daniel Olenych; daughters Betty Rountree and Barbara Baize; and great-grandchildren Chelsea Nicole and Jac Conde.
Celebration of Life will be held at a later date with internment at Ft. Sam Houston National Cemetery in San Antonio, TX.
