Marie Jo Saegert Billnitzer was born November 24, 1929, in Seguin, Texas, to Joe F. Saegert and Frieda Gosemann Saegert. She was a graduate of Texas Lutheran University and spent over 20 years teaching students in elementary grades for the Seguin Independent School District and kindergarten at Emanuel's Lutheran. In that role, she touched many lives and inspired curiosity. During her retirement, she expanded her lifelong learning through extensive worldwide travel, reading, painting and volunteer work.
She was a lifelong member of Emanuel's Lutheran Church and active in civic organizations including One Seguin Art Center, Guadalupe Valley Family Violence Shelter, Church Women United, Girl Scouts, Seguin Library, American Association of University Women, and Delphian Study Club. In addition, she served on Seguin City Council for five years.
Her most treasured legacy is her family who enjoyed holidays and frequent occasions to gather. She leaves behind four children, nine grandchildren, and three great grandchildren along with numerous other extended family members.
She died October 24, 2015, in Seguin and was predeceased by Theodore B. Billnitzer, her husband of 52 years, as well as three brothers. She is survived by Douglas Joe Billnitzer and his wife Karen, Joan Billnitzer Lackorn, Janet Billnitzer Haas and her husband William, and Philip August Billnitzer and his wife Beth.
A memorial celebration of her life will be held Friday, November 27, 2015, at 10:30 a.m. at Emanuel's Lutheran Church. Ashes will be placed at Emanuel's Lutheran Church columbarium during a private service. Memorial donations may be made to the charity of your choice.
