Matthew David Afflerbach, age 31 of San Marcos, Texas, passed away on April 22, 2025. Matthew was born on December 23, 1993 in Seguin, Texas to Geneva Arce and Scott Alan Afflerbach.

Matthew loved working on things around the house and anything DIY. If anything was broken around the house there is a good chance he could fix it. Anything from changing oil on trucks to remodeling entire rooms in the house, he loved a project. Matthew graduated Seguin High School and attended Texas State University where he met his wife, Shelby. Matthew was also a devoted family man that was ever present for any family member that needed him. Family members didn't need to ask for help, Matthew always seemed to know when someone needed him, but most of all, Matthew was a devoted father. His son Gabriel was always his number one focus and the center of his world. His love for Gabriel was the heartbeat of his life. From the very beginning, he embraced fatherhood with a full and open heart—changing diapers without complaint, reading bedtime stories with voices and laughter, and looking upon his son with pride shining in his eyes.

He was his son's greatest champion, protector, and guide. Whether they were building something in the garage or just talking late into the night, Matthew made sure his son knew how deeply loved he was. He taught by example—how to be kind, how to work hard, how to admit mistakes, and how to stand tall with humility and grace.

More than anything, Matthew wanted his son to know that he was never alone. That no matter what life threw his way, his father's love would always be a steady anchor. It is that love, so constant and true, that will continue to live on in Gabriel—in his values, his choices, and the strength he carries forward.

Matthew is preceded in death by his great-grandmother, Bernice Curry and his furbaby, Harley.

Survivors include his wife, Shelby; son, Gabriel; mother, Geneva Arce; father, Scott Alan Afflerbach; brother, Brandon Afflerbach (McKenna); sister, Lauryn Afflerbach and grandparents; David Afflerbach (Sandra) and Stephen Arce (Angie).

A private service will be held at a later date.
