Maurice Simons (Burr) Wood, Jr., age 93, of Seguin, formerly of Alice and Houston, entered eternal rest on June 12, 2014. He was born October 18, 1920 in Kingsville, Texas. Burr was preceded in death by his parents, Maurice and Mary Foster Wood, wife, Esther Taylor Wood, wife, Eva Arthur Wood, son, Jay Wood and sister, Elizabeth Reeves. He is survived by daughter, Suzi (Bill) Hughson of Seguin; granddaughters, Melissa Hughson of Woodsboro, Jennifer (Jimmie) Price of McQueeney and Nichole (Sandy) Todd of Ardmore, Oklahoma; great-grandchildren, Matt Steele, Cadi Steele, Joey Price, Olivia Price, LeeAnn Price, Abby Todd, and Will Todd; special niece, Margie (Buck) Blakely of Houston; step-daughters, Ann (Bobby) Hilliard of Cleveland, Tennessee, Ginny (Ronnie)Truett of Crosby; step-sons, Eddie (Debbie) Arthur of Dayton, Wallace (Martha) Arthur of Crosby and numerous nieces and nephews. He is a descendant of the noted American composer, Stephen Collins Foster. Burr was a pilot in the U. S. Army Air Corps during World War II. He was a retired butcher and grocery store owner. A memorial service will be held at the Knolle Chapel of First United Methodist Church of Seguin on Sunday, June 22, 2014 at 2 p.m. with Rev. Darlene Weidner and Rev. Ron Welborn officiating. Graveside services and interment with military honors will be held on Friday, June 27, 2014 at 1:00 p.m. at the Houston National Cemetery in Houston.
