Obituary

Melvin D. "Mel" Ammerman, age 84 of Seguin, passed away on July 7, 2014. Visitation will begin on Thursday, July 10, 2014 at 9:00 a.m. at St. James Catholic Church followed by the mass of Christian Burial at 10:30 a.m. with Rev. Msgr. Dennis Darilek officiating. Interment with military honors will follow in San Geronimo Cemetery. A reception will follow in St. James Family Center. Mel was born on June 30, 1930 in Shiner, Texas to Dick and Mary Ammerman. He graduated from Moulton High School and Texas State University, San Marcos. He was a member of the American legion H. U. Wood Post 245 in Seguin and V. F. W. Post 8456 in Geronimo and proudly served his country in the United States Army during the Korean Conflict. Prior to teaching at Seguin ISD for 21 years, he worked at Radio stations and TV stations as an Announcer and Engineer. He owned and built KLVG radio station in LaGrange, Texas. He and his wife Bess, are members of Po.L.K. of A. since 1992 and enjoyed volunteer dancing at many nursing homes and many dance halls. He loved his Polka and Waltz Music. He is preceded in death by his parents, Dick and Mary Ammerman of Shiner and sister, Lorene Mueller of Westhoff. He is survived by his loving wife of 64 years, Bess Tousek Ammerman; daughters, Donna Kindley and husband Galen, and Judith (Judy) Dempster and husband, Russell; grandchildren, Bryan W. Dempster, Barrett L. Dempster and wife, Vanessa, Alison Mentzos and husband, Mike; great-grandchildren, Makayla Dempster, Lauren Dempster and Gracelyn Mentzos; brother-in-law, Adrian Mueller; nephews, nieces and other family members and many loving friends. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to St. James Catholic Church, 510 South Camp, Seguin, Texas, 78155 or to the charity of your choice. The family would like to thank Father Dennis Darilek for his prayers and blessing and Guadalupe Regional Hospice Services for their loving care.
