Melvin Julius Kessler, Jr., age 75 of Seguin, passed away on August 10, 2010 after a brave battle with diabetes. Visitation will be held on Thursday, August 12, 2010 at Tres Hewell Mortuary from 2 to 7 p.m. with the family receiving friends from 5 to 7 p.m. The rosary will be recited, Friday, August 13, 2010 at 9:30 a.m. at St. James Catholic Church followed by the Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 a.m. with Rev. Msgr. Dennis Darilek officiating. Interment will follow in Blumberg Cemetery in McQueeney. Melvin was born on October 25, 1934 in San Antonio, Texas to Melvin Julius, Sr. and Olga Ann Hoelscher Kessler. He will be remembered as the owner of Kessler Brothers Construction Company. He was a member of the San Antonio Builders Exchange, San Antonio Builders Association and the Carpenters Union Local #14. He proudly served as Vice-President of the Flying Anglers Bass Club. Melvin was blessed to serve as an usher at St. James Catholic Church. His parents, brother James Kessler, and granddaughter Kelly Kessler preceded him in death. Survivors include his loving wife of 57 years Emma Jo Martin Kessler; children, John Kessler, Ralph Kessler, Kathryn Schwerdtfeger and husband Jeff, Leroy James Kessler and Barbara Nova and husband Leo; Brothers, Leroy C. Kessler and wife Lee, Herbert Kessler and wife Sybil, Daniel Kessler and wife Judy, Kenneth Kessler and wife Carol, Nolan Kessler and wife Lilly and Robert Kessler and wife JoAnna; sister-in-law, Judy Mason Kessler; grandchildren, Candee Hetchler and husband Stacy, Ralph Kessler, Jr. and wife Lisa, Holly Kessler and Santiago Velasquez, Christina Kessler, Pvt. Justin Kessler, USA, Patricia Kessler, Melvin J. Kessler, III, Eric Schwerdtfeger, Matthew Schwerdtfeger, Andrew Schwerdtfeger, Michael Kessler, Sgt Scott Kessler, USA and wife Andrea, Jordan Nova, Allison Nova and Jacob Nova; great-grandchildren, Brooklyn Kessler, Koahl Hetchler, Greisun Hetchler, Hailey Kessler, Ashlee Kessler, Natalie Velasquez, Nevaeh Velasquez, Noah Velasquez and Jezevel Estep; Aunts, Leona Hailey and Ernestine Lange and husband Arnold; numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
