Obituary

Michael S. "Mike" Logan, age 60 of La Vernia, passed away on June 3, 2017. A celebration of life service will be held on Thursday, June 8, 2017 at 4:30 p.m. at Tres Hewell Mortuary Chapel with Rev. Josh Snyder officiating and military honors. Private interment will be held at a later date at Fort Sam Houston National Cemetery. Additional services will be held in Warner Robins, Georgia, on Saturday, June 17, 2017 at 3PM at the Trinity Methodist Church. Mike was born on September 18, 1956 in Topeka Kansas to Kenneth William and Ruth (Ashley) Logan. He is preceded in death by his brother, Byron Logan and his father-in-law, Harry A. Stanton. Survivors include his loving wife, Suzanne S. Logan; daughter, Erin Logan; parents, Ken and Ruth Logan; brothers, Kevin Logan and wife Annette, and David Logan and wife Teresa; mother-in-law, Mary Stanton; sisters-in-law, Lyndy Werdin and husband Dave, Cindy Langanki and husband Dan, and Sarah Cray and husband Ron; brother-in-law, Patrick Stanton and wife Brenda; numerous aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins, other loving family members and many friends. In honor of Mike, the family suggests wearing Hawaiian shirts or other happy clothes. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Erin Logan educational fund or the EAA Young Eagles Program.
Mike was raised in Warner Robins Georgia, graduating from Warner Robins High School in the class of 1974, where he participate in football and wrestling programs. He joined the Army after high school. He was later a Georgia Military College ROTC graduate, and first lieutenant Platoon Leader for the Army Rigging unit. After receiving a BBA from Georgia College in 1982, he worked for a time as an Air Traffic Controller in Atlanta Center. Mike retired from civilian service in 2015, serving as a Contracting Officer at US Marine Corps Systems Command, and U.S. Naval stations including Patuxent River.
Flying was Mike's passion in life. He got his private pilot's license in 1991, and in 2000, he flew his homebuilt airplane. He was very active in the Experimental Aircraft Association (EAA) Young Eagles program, earning his 100 mission patch, giving introductory flights to children age 8-18. He also volunteered yearly at the Sun 'N Fun fly-in in Florida, and had many long-time friends there and throughout the flying community. He built a four foot, rotating gas heated pancake griddle that he used for fundraisers for the EAA, his church and local fire department. He was always there to lend a helping hand in whatever hard work needed to be done.
