Michael Thomas Raetzsch, age 22, died in a drowning accident in Seguin on June 9, 2009. Visitation will be held at Tres Hewell Mortuary from 1:00 to 7:00 P. M. on Friday, June 12, 2009 with the family receiving friends from 5:00 to 7:00 P. M.
Services will be held at 10:00 A. M. on Saturday, June 13, 2009 at Emanuel's Lutheran Church in Seguin. Interment will follow in San Geronimo Cemetery.
Michael is the son of Dr. Thomas H. Raetzsch and wife, Beth Bischoff Raetzsch and was born on July 29, 1986 in Austin, Texas. Maternal grandparents are Dr. Harry Bischoff and Martha Bishcoff of Seguin. Paternal grandparents are the late Dr. Andrew Raetzsch and wife, Ellen Hays Raetzsch, of Seguin.
Michael was a very athletic young man with a passion for life. He received his B. A. Degree from Texas Lutheran University and was pursuing teaching certification. Michael possessed a zest for life. Art, music and outdoor activities, especially skateboarding were his passions. Michael loved painting especially in oil and water color. He was employed with Kitty Keller in her art studio and had recently been offered a position at the McNay Art Institute in San Antonio.
Michael is survived by his parents, Tommy and Beth, sister, Amy Raetzsch, and his grandparents Martha and Harry Bischoff. He is also survived by aunts and uncles, Whitney and Tim Bischoff, Donna and Robert Raetzsch, Patricia and Chris Bischoff, Kathy Raetzsch Taddy and John Taddy, Farideh and Scott Bischoff, Becky and Mike Gilliland, and cousins Ted Raetzsch, Andrew Raetzsch, Laura Raetzsch Unnasch and Adam Unnasch, Alexander Raetzsch Taddy, Kurt Bischoff, Sarah Gilliland, Andy Gilliland, Austin Bischoff and Alec Bischoff. Michael was predeceased by grandparents, Andrew and Ellen Raetzsch and cousin, Brent Bischoff. His cousins will honor him by serving as pallbearers.
