Mildred Jane Woerndel, passed away on January 20, 2016. Visitation will be held on Sunday, January 24, 2016 at Tres Hewell Mortuary from 3 to 5 p.m. Funeral services will be held on Monday, January 25, 2016 at 11 a.m. at Redeemer United Church at Zuehl with Rev. Lee Zillmann officiating. Interment will follow in the Redeemer United Church Cemetery. Mildred was born on November 30, 1943 in Seguin, Texas to Henry and Viola (Schneider) Woerndel. After graduation from Marion High School in 1962, she attended Texas Lutheran College where she received her teaching credentials. During her college days, Mildred worked at both TLC and D & D Bumper Works. Mildred began her teaching career at Durham Business College in San Antonio, but it was at Seguin High School that Mildred, whom everyone called Aunt Mildred, would spend the next 43 years in the Business Education Department. In that time, Aunt Mildred became a member of Delta Kappa Gamma, and the National Association of Parliamentarians. She also served on the Board of Directors of Business Professionals of America - Texas Association. She also worked with Business Professionals of America and VOE/OEA on the National Host Committee, as well as held several regional, state, and national offices over the years. Aunt Mildred was Texas Teacher of the year in 2001, and held the title at Seguin High School as well. She also won the Vision Award in 2007. Before her retirement in 2012, Aunt Mildred served on the Business Professionals of America Board of Trustees. In addition to her numerous years serving with the BPA, she was also an active member and volunteer of the Guadalupe County Youth Show, serving as co-secretary for over 40 years. She had judged 4-H, Future Farmers of America and Family, Career and Community Leaders of America Events. Aunt Mildred was truly an inspirational woman and a wonderful teacher who touched the lives of so many students and community members. She will be truly missed. Mildred is preceded in death by her parents, brother Allen Ray Woerndel; sister-in-law Loretta Woerndel; nephew-in-law Douglas Story, great- nieces, Karen Michelle Woerndel and Hailiegh Story. Mildred is survived by her siblings; Harvey Woerndel, Clarence Woerndel and wife Rosanna; Joyce Kucherka and husband Dennis; nieces and nephews Michael Woerndel and wife Lauren, Kimberly Woerndel Story, Diana Weber and husband Kelly, Charles Kucherka and Rachel, Jennifer Swanson and husband Chad, James Kucherka and wife Jessica, Brian Woerndel, Kristy Williams and husband Chris; God son, Duane Kutach and wife Melissa; great-nieces and nephews, Hayden, Weston, Glorianna, Emilie, Luke, Trace, Kayla, Shaye, Tara, Elizabeth, Alexa, Krista, Grant, Colton, Cade, David, Cheyanne, Jonathan, Cailey, as well as numerous friends, and former students whose lives Mildred touched. Serving as pallbearers will be Duane Kutach, Michael Woerndel, Charles Kucherka, James Kucherka, Kelly Weber, and Chad Swanson.
